Just a story.
I spent two days paddling my canoe on the Dead River in Maine last weekend.
Sunday afternoon on the third to last rapid I was feeling kind of tired and clumsy. I'd been snacking earlier and thought I'd be a little high so I guessed I was just tired from two days of playing hard. But we took a break so I tested anyway.

45 mgdl.

DOH!

So I chowed down a half dozen Canada Mints (18g) and a granola bar (26g)for good measure. Tested again before we pulled out.
85 mgdl. I felt good and paddled those last two rapids as well as anything I'd done all weekend.
I tested again an hour later at the takeout, 120 mgdl.

WOW that could have been bad.....I've had hypos while on my mtn. bike, never crashed but got the wobbles/shakey riding going on and knew to stop right away, or go over a hill:eek: You did good, and don't the it stop you from doing things you love.

Ah looks like fun! BG that low is no fun, you did perfect bringing it back up. Sometimes I over-due it....but I had readings in the 20's so I kind of panic sometimes.

Hi Tommy - your trip sounds awsome! I and DH are about to head up to northern Ontario, Canada for our annual canoe pilgrimage. Not much river running where we'll be, but plenty of long and windy lake travel, and many portages. The headwinds and trail running are my hypo challenges. It never ceases to amaze me that we can head off an island into a headwind in the morning and turn around to return to the island...right back into a headwind!
