I walked into Starbucks today with my 16 year old daughter and didn't end up ordering anything for myself because I didn't know what would be no-carb, or very low carb (besides black coffee). I wanted something hot, creamy, and sweet.

Before starting my lower carb lifestyle, I would order a caramel macchiato.

I'm looking for ideas from you seasoned low-carbers.

Thanks!

Up here is Washington they have drive up coffee stands on nearly every corner it seems. My wife always likes to stop and I never order anything out of fear for my life.

Starbucks has really good iced tea. I know how you feel. I would be interested in suggestions as well.

I was at a starbucks last night. I asked the young man working the register for nutrition info on the drink I wanted, and he was able to tell me exactly how many grams of carbs and how many grams of sugar, calories, etc are in anything I wanted to order. They had a nice big book of nutrition info. :) And they don't seem to mind being helpful either...

If you want you should ask the barista at the counter, they should have the nutrition book near the register.

As both an employee at starbucks and a diabetic I suggest that you could get a soy sugar free vanilla latte, which is the same thing as a caramel macchiato except with soy and minus the caramel sauce. Definitely switching to soy will help with the carb counts.

Mochas are usually a big no-no, but some people find a one-pump mocha with soy milk is more tolerable.

I STRONGLY suggest going to this website:

starbucks® beverages | Starbucks Coffee Company (http://www.starbucks.com/retail/nutrition_beverages.asp)

This will let you build different drinks and see the carb/nutrition info.

Hi Steve:

You can also ask for their sugar-free syrup so you get that sweet flavoring that's part of the experience.
