"sugar spikes!" Your sugar goes up, your sugar comes back DOWN.

And when it comes back down, even to normal, off a high, you feel low or HUNGRAY!

Low-carbing and metformin fixed that for me. Thank HEAVENS. I would've eaten myself to a quick death otherwise.

One possible explanation is that you ate foods high in carbohydrates -- especially refined/concentrated carbohydrates. This causes both your Blood Glucose (BG) and insulin levels to raise.

We are not often told this, but insulin is a major fat storage hormone... this means that it very quickly and effectively takes those carbs and locks them away in our fat stores. I say "locks away" because another effect insulin has is to stop the body from accessing those fat stores as an energy source. Like I said fat "storage" hormone.

So the BG has been quickly locked away as fat and in effect your cells are crying out for energy which is no longer available to it so you are hungry... you really are.

If the case above is correct for you then one response is to eat less of the foods which drive both your BG and insulin levels up.

Awesome thanks for the answers, another question why am I so thirsty before I go to bed. I can down water like it is going out of style and pay for it when I need to get up in the middle of the night!

My experience is that higher carb intake generates exactly what you describe. And I battle to keep hydrated too, while avoiding that middle-of-the-night trip to the bathroom (I HATE that! :D). If I can get lots of fluid down early in the day, and then don't drink so much after supper, it seems to help.

Kosmo, I did not have the thirst and peeing till right before my crash.

What kind of blood sugars are we talkin', again?

I haven't tested much, but it usually right before bed. The only time I have tested after 9 was BS was around 120 about 3 hours after eating dinner. I just seem to down a glass of water at night, and then crave another and another! It's like once it starts I can't stop. Was very thristy after posting the 156 also, went from that to 110 in a half hour.

I completely agree, carbs (the kind ya love) are not only addicting but make you hungry -eat more,

Low carb is so good - eat more protein maybe and watch too much saturated fats - I think it's prob OK to do more fats and proteins and a very little carb for a while asyou get stable and then balance it out.

starving yourself is not a good option, so you need to fill in with nuts egg avocado, veggies, moderate fruit, cheese and lean meats plus of course tuna and other oily fish like salmon etc etc.

There's so much you can eat that won't touch your bg but the carbs are quite addictive. I think back and don't think I could eat that much at one sitting even if I tried, you just have to go through it... plus a feeling of slight emptiness can become a friend.. :o

I don't know how long you have been around here, but for me at first cutting way back was a bit hard. Your right I was hungary. I ate a lot of little snacks, a few nuts, light egg white cookies, fat free jello, ect.

I think for me at least, after some time I find that I am not hungary all the time as my stomach and system have adjusted to not being overfed, which is exactly what it was before.

Maybe your just not adjusted yet?

I too found carbs addictive. I had to cut them way back to control my hunger. I did find that a brisk walk would often combat hunger though.
