I'm having a small problem and I was wondering if anyone possibly knew if it could be caused by the dosage of my medicine. It's going to be a few days before I will have the cash to get my Metformin 850 refilled so I've had to seek an alternitive for the moment. I have some older Metformin 500 mg I was taking before it was upped to 850. It's not working aswell although my sugar level isremainging realitivly under control. I'm just staying kind of light headed and slightly dizzy. I was wondering if this could be due to a sudden change in dosage or the fact the 850 mg wasworking better for me. By the way I am taking both twice a day with breakfast and dinner.

Are they the same type of metformin? Is one extended release and the other not? How many of the older 500 ones are you taking?

I would say if all else fails you can always call your pharmacy and tell them what's going on and see if they have an explanation. Mine is great about answering my questions

If you find they're the same type of metformin, I don't see why you couldn't take 1½ tablets of your 500mg. That would get you to 750mg at least.

And welcome to the board, Rajen!

When I first went into the hospital I stayed 3 days so they could get my sugar level under control and start me on insulin. The doctor there put me on insulin saying she did all her patients that way and would see if in the future they could be moved to pills. My doctor was on vacation while the meager supply of insulin kept me going. It costed over 300 dollars for everything and I told him I was unable to afford all of this. So we tried the Metforim 500 and it hardly worked better than the insulin. So he then increased it to the 850 tablets which were working perfectly. I don't get paid until the 14th and until I see him again all I have are the unused 500 tablets. I felt fine until the switch so thought it may be due to the change in the level of medication. Or maybe how effective it is it does lower my sugar levvel but seems to take longer and its easier for my sugar level to climb up. Thanks for youradvice though i willl call the pharmacy and if its ok I'll add an extra half pill to what I take until I see the doctor.
