Chickpeas!

I love chickpeas and they have in the recent past affected me negatively. I am thinking ... 60 - 80 g net carbs' worth, for lunch!

A little cumin, a little fried onion ... YUMMY! Of course I will be valiantly quantitative about it all, too.

Stay tuned if you are bored ...

Were you considering a bit of soup maybe? Hang on, hang on...ahhh here it is, a lovely ham hock with lots of meat still on the bone. Here you go (she hands it over). Oh shoot, I almost forgot, here's a few carrots from my garden they're particularily sweet this year.

What else shall we add?

(When your babies do get home are they ever going to have some yummy leftovers!)

I am vegetarian, so thanks for the ham, but no thx!

Not a soup, either, although I do sometimes make a lovely Greek one with lemon added to the above ingredients.

Boiled and drained. And of course, EVOO from the onion-frying :) My husband ate them that way with beers when he was stationed in Tel Aviv. It is addictive and he got me hooked!

Only kiddo who likes chickpeas is my son, he eats and appreciates a HUGE variety of foods!

They would if I were not too lazy! :)

I am waiting for this harvester to finish on my farm before I start cooking ...

i always get favourable results with chick peas...and eat them often. i usually eat a cup serving (about 28g carbs) at a time, probably 2-3 times a week.

most often i bake them with grapeseed oil, garlic, roasted red pepper spice, baby tomatoes, goat cheese and portabella mushrooms and top with steamed bok choy.

had it last night, in fact! YUM.

let us know how it goes for you!!

e||ement, this was def more of a peasant dish -- chickpeas, onions sauteed in olive oil, cumin, hot red pepper, and turmeric. Quite simple.

Chickpeas have saponins which adsorb lipids and cholesterol in your gut ...

basically, i will devour anything with chickpeas (or chickies, as my 2 year old calls them). fortunately he likes them too.

foxl

In all but THE TINIEST portions, yes.

Black beans, lentils, chickpeas ... I ate one of them at least twice a week! I miss my friends!

eeeek!

suppose you halved the serving?

foxl
08-09-2009, 02:56 PM
Well that'd be about the equivalent of what I did yesterday, 40 g ... so I'd probably be fine with that much. And a LOT of low-carb side dishes of course.

So, how many grams carb per meal would the ol' ADA want me on ... ? Heading to look!

The website now says 45 - 60 g carb per meal, or more, or less ... OR LESS! Good ...

I had 80 in this meal. 40 would work for me, I maxed out at 130? yesterday?

No, no, truly ridiculous, and I think it was you who yesterday said it would have peaked FAR higher if I did this daily for a while ...

Ok, I'm sitting here looking at the notes that my DE's dietician made for me, back when I was first diagnosed. In this sample meal plan she has me eating 45gm per meal, 15gm snack between lunch and dinner, then a 30gm snack before bed. That sounds like way too much, especially before bed. I never followed this plan. I just try and eat as low carb as I can and my numbers are still way high. I see my dr this week, so we'll see what he does.

Linda, I checked my papers and I did have a c-peptide done at my first appt for bloodwork. It says 1.0

I go in Thursday for my follow up to my bloodwork from last Friday. I don't know if he ordered another c-peptide. If not I'll ask about it.

Chana dal is a slightly different species of chickpea, and harvested at a less-mature stage. It is supposed to be lower glycemic index, but so far I have not had much luck ... but that may be as much portion control issues!

One interesting point ...

to summarize, my 80-g carb load readings were:

0 (1:51 pm) 94
60 163
90 218
120 210
180 118
240 91

(10 addtl g carb for dinner, followed by mild 30" cycle workout) ...

7.5 hr 87

Following morning FBG was only 100 so it did not add to DP, apparently!
