Does anyone else who takes Starlix have joint pain in their hands? I am 42 and it seems a bit early for arthritis... The joint pain onset seemed to correspond to starting the Starlix. No joint pain anywhere else...
Thanks.

I got a 'script for Starlix about 2 years after my son was born - but my doctor forgot I was still breastfeeding, so I never took it. By the time I stopped breastfeeding a year ago, I took a first attempt at Byetta instead of Starlix (mostly because the woman who runs blood sugar 101 had heard from some MODY3's that it worked well for them). Byetta was so much fun :( that I've stuck with Humalog - and then I was surprised by the impact raw foods made in Feb-Mar. So I've never tried Starlix yet, despite the studies that seem to indicate it is a good choice for MODY3's.
So all that is to say I don't have any direct experience. But from a TCM standpoint (Traditional Chinese Medicine) - pain is usually related to " liver system" function. Given that MODY3's don't process drugs as quickly as most folks due to the HNF-1alpha mutation, it would make sense that processing Starlix might put some stress on the liver that could manifest as some issue with joint pain. What I tend to do if I have such questions is to get a TCM diagnosis, and then use that info to weigh the benefits of the drug against the side-effects.
