My wife is slightly overweight. Worrying that she will get he mom's genetic of diabetes, I tested her 2 hours after dinner. Her BG was 124. Is she a prediabetic or has tendency to it?

I would urge you to have the tests done by a doctor. That is the only way to be sure.

You really can't tell from just that. If there is concern - and there probably should be with a family history and being a bit overweight - have your doc run tests to be sure about it.
If you came back with an 88 two hours after eating, I'd say don't worry about it. If you came back with a 180 after two hours, I'd think yeah, probably. But even one isolated incident isn't concrete proof either. Can be illness, stress, etc, that can elevate sugars too.

Hi Mkudsy!
How recently were you diagnosed as a Type-2?
That your wife has a two-hour post prandial BG reading of 124 puts her into the very normal range for most of the population. Of course, if you subscribe to the environmental theory of Type-2 onset your shared lifestyle, which already has you as a Type-2, might be a risk factor to consider.
Keep in mind the criteria for a diagnosis of Pre-D is an FBG above 100 but below 126. That should be confirmed with an HbA1c above 6.0%, but not all MD's take that into consideration. Also note that the Pre-D diagnosis is only as a warning to change your lifestyle to attempt to avoid full-blown diabetes.
Should both of you be changing your lifestyle to a diabetic one? I couldn't hurt either of you. Changes in eating paterns and exercise amounts will only be beneficial for both of you.

Well Ronin, for my case I was diagnosed by a specialist. He is my doc since I had gtt 5 years ago.
Now I have been cutting carbohydrate intake so much, not only that but also changing diet composition from carb oriented to vegs, that my postpandrial BG very rarely never exceeds 120.
My wife is healthy and very active hardworking woman. She rarely has nap and snacks even on weekend, but yet she is still overweight. I think the problem is the intake still higher than what she needs.
Learning from my case, I agree that she should observe reducing carbohydrate now.
I think her postpradial BG is near to the limit.

You also need to remember most meters could be off as much as 20% so you need to take that into consideration, Have her doctor check to make sure
