I finally went to the Opthalmologist for the first time the other day since being diagnosed. My close-up vision has steadily gotten worse over the past couple years, so I was definitely expecting glasses & maybe other problems. To my surprise I came out with 20/20 vision & no glaucoma or retinopathy due to diabetes. The problem? I can read a street sign a mile away, but get anything within arms length & it's a blur without reading glasses. Unfortunately, the Dr. said, as we age:eviltongu & at 56 I qualify, we lose that close-up vision & have to make up for it with either reading glasses or laser surgery. So, I'm lucky I have no real eye problems & since insurance doesn't cover laser surgery I guess I'll keep wearing my reading glasses.
