hey,
I was wondering does anybody else find it extremely difficult to lose weight with having type 1 diabetes.I'm slim until you get to my bellybutton and then WOAH,its like you just hit a mountain.haha.its really frustrating though because it just wont budge and having to eat carbs to keep my blood glucose levels up doesnt help.I dont eat much carbs really and manage to keep my calories intake to around 900 kcals a day.I do about 3 hours of exercise a day and it still i dont lose anything.I'am 5ft 4'' and 123-124 lbs (56kg).Could any of you guys tell me of diets that have worked for you or any exercise tips..
thanks in advance,

Maybe your metabolism isn't so great and 900 calories may be too little. I came across this looking for something else, but it might be helpful:

How much do you want to lose. Your weight seems fine to me for your height.
It seems like you are doing a lot of exercise. Are you taking days off in between weight lifting sessions to allow your muscles to recover? What kind of cardio are you doing?
Also, I agree with inkvisitor that your calorie intake may be too low, sending your body into a type of starvation mode.

I am sorry, but you do not need to loose weight! You may try to tone your tummy if it really bothers you. Big difference. Be happy about what you have. It sounds perfect to me! :D

Do you by any chance inject frequently in your stomach?
its really frustrating though because it just wont budge and having to eat carbs to keep my blood glucose levels up doesnt help.
Reduce your insulin intake then - you shouldn't be 'feeding' the insulin.

Your profile says you're male, but highly unlikely at 5'4 and 123-lbs! LOL
I'm also 5'4 and my weight stays within the 117-122-lb range. I have what I call a little "jelly belly" around the belly button area which I blame on 2 c-sections and 2 abdominal surgeries. LOL I walk but I do not do anything else for exercise. I own an Ab Lounger that is collecting dust. A friend uses hers faithfully and her stomach does look flatter.
I agree with the others.........your weight seems appropriate for your height.

hey,
ooooppps better change that (im female!)...
I inject into my legs mostly but sometimes my stomach too...
I do 1 hour of high intensity exercise such as hockey or running uphill for 3 miles..i then do an hour of billy blanks tae bo workout..and i then go for a 3 mile walk..and later on in the evening i do some circuit training...I know technically my weight is ok for my height but i would love to lose say maybe 7-10 lbs just to feel comfortable with myself and maybe lose some of the belly fat..
thanks for replying...

Not a big tummy tuck person. I don't do any myself. Some kind of crunch makes sense though!

What kind of insulin regime are you on? How do you dose for meals? Are you taking a fixed dose of insulin and eating to prevent lows, or are you calculating how much insulin to inject for a meal based on what you intend to eat?

I think your weight is fine for your height. I don't know why you'd want to lose weight but maybe you are not eating enough for the amount of exercise you are doing. Your metabolism is obviously slowed down either because of your thyroid is to slow or you're not eating enough to feed it.
But seriously, I think you're fine....
