About a week ago I suddenly couldn't read my screen with reading cheaters. Today I was driving & discovered the signs were out of focus, they were fine yesterday.
Any Ideas? I have an appointment in 10 days.
Diabetic 21 yrs. Type 1 A1C 7.3 last week, numbers have always been 7.1-7.2. Humalog & Lantus 50 yrs. old.

I did have some pretty major oral surgery two & a half weeks ago. I can't eat as I usually do & my sugars are acting wacky.

Welcome azdrydock. I am new to Diabetes and to this forum, so I really couldn't give you any advice. I hope your vision gets better. The thing I am wondering is why are you having to wait 10 days!? Seems like this could be more of an urgent situation and they should get you checked out.

Once you get your sugar in check your vision should go back to what it normally is. Mine did when I was first diagnosed. I have had many laser surgeries since and I am thankful I can still see. My eyes have been stable for two years now since I started treating myself better. You really need to get your A1C down to between 5 and 6. My last one was 5.9. Good luck.
Rob, what are you taking, if anything, for cholesterol and triglycerides? I started taking fish oil about a year ago and has done wonders.

It's prob'ly unlikely because you're still young, but what you describe is what my vision is like due to cataracts. I can read the screen if I enlarge the font. And I can still drive, but I stick to my usual paths where I know what the roadsigns say, because I sure can't read 'em.

I haven't heard of fish oil. Let's see, I think I am taking Simvastatin for cholesterol, and then I am taking a med for hypertension and for hypothyroid. Nothing for tris.

What were your normal sugar readings before? And now?

Exactly. If your sugars have been high for a few weeks, this is likely the cause, but of course you won't know if you don't test.

Welcome to the forum!
Hopefully it's just a matter of your sugar being temporarily higher because of your surgery. However...although your A1C isn't wildly high, a 7.1 is equivalent to an average of 175, which means your blood sugar is high enough to cause damage on a regular basis, if not always. Glad you found us here - you might want to check around for ideas to lower your blood sugar. In the meantime, most people find it beneficial to cut down or eliminate "white" foods (if you aren't already): bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, flour, sugar.
Do you have a yearly eye exam? Any problems last time you had one?
