I haven't had a soda since my Dx 2 weeks ago and I've been wanting one some kind of bad. I don't know how they effect BG though since they're typically carb free.
Breakfast tomorrow is going to be some egg beaters, veggie sausage, cheese, and a giant diet coke, I think. We'll see how I test with that. Just curious if they mess with you guys' levels.

I have a diet Mtn. Dew every morning (not a coffee drinker, so it's a good caffeine boost), and I also enjoy Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet A&W rootbeer. I think this is a case of "YMMV" (your mileage may vary), so the best thing to do is try it and test. I've seen some here say that it does, while others are like me and have no problems.
I have read that drinking diet sodas can actually increase your appetite...but I have to have something besides water and tea.

Jeremy,
They seem to be a real your mileage may vary thing. I can drink diet coke without any impact on my BG, but I have seen posts here from people getting spikes after drinking diet drinks.
The best way is to drink it and test.

I'm not a soda person, but the diet green tea I used to drink to keep alert on long trips now spikes me, so I've made the switch to diet Mountain Dew, and I can drink it all day without budging BG.

Well now that seems unusual. So I guess it's not an all or nothing type of thing either. I'll bet that makes it difficult.
And all along, I was thinking this'd be easy.... lol! :T

Although I drink very little soda, when I do it has no impact on me (I usually drink caffiene free diet Pepsi). However, about a month ago my sister brought home some diet Sunkist orange soda (or maybe it was diet Crush) and there were actually a little bit of sugar/carbs in. What made me notice was when I happened to glance at the nutrition info and noticed it had 10 calories per serving.

So, I performed my little test -- somewhat inconclusively. hehe.
I woke up this morning with a FBG of 88 -- made 2 servings of eggbeaters (1g carbs each), and 2 veggie sausage patties (3g carbs each) for a total of about 8g of carbs. I've found that I'm pretty sensitive to any carbs in the morning, particularly cereal and things of the like. I had a 12oz can of diet caffeine free pepsi with it.
1 hour later, my sugar was at 128. 2 hours later, it was at 129 (i'm calling it the same).
From that, I'm guessing that it's safe for me to have diet caffeine free pepsi (at least in moderation). My BG did increase around 40 points, but stayed under 130. Does that sound like a fair assumption? Or do you think that 40 pt spike is something to be concerned about?
Hey, thanks! I'm still quite new to this.
