Is it advisable to eat bannanas. What's the carb and sugar content of a bannana.

That's what I found, but are the 14 grams of sugar included in the 26grams?

Yes, the total carbs includes the 14 grams of sugar. I know this because if I look up the dietary exchange values of a banana, 1/2 a banana is listed as 1 exchange (15 grams of carbs), so 26 grams is about right for the entire thing.

So it's like eating a slice of bread.
Hmm I wonder if it will help with her DP issue?

While your mileage may vary, bananas seem to be bad for most diabetics. The sugar content causes most of us to spike really high, so you need to check you BG levels after eating a banana to see what it does to your numbers specifically.
It really spikes my numbers, and a lot of others here have the same results. I'd be surprised if your results were any different, but you never know.

And things sometimes change. A few year ago I could eat a small banana and have no problem. Now 1/2 a banana will cause a quick spike. I just gave them up altogether.

I used to think bananas are okay because after two hours I was fine. But the last time I ate one I was feeling high and when I checked it I was hovering near 200 at the one hour mark! So now I steer clear because I've heard that spikes are what do the most damage. It's sad because I like them. :(

Yep, I usually have mom at 99-103 by 6pm, she was 156 at 6pm she had 1 whole banana today. Wow that is the highest I've seen her.

What time did she eat the banana? What was her BG level at 1 hour? What was her BG level at 2 hours?

I can eat 1/2 a banana and I'll be ok. More than that and I will spike.
ALSO, I've found that a banana that is still a little green will not increase my BG as much as one that is fully yellow.
Green bananas will hardly give me blip, ripe ones are like solid glucose.
I thought you were suppose to eat green bananas for stomach virus. they have a anti-diare effect.

Like deercotn, I can only manage 1/2 a banana or a very small one. I eat them rarely, as there are other fruits I tolerate much better.
