View Full Version : Weightlifting
Yes I saw the sticky and I posted in it.
I just wanted to know if there are any Weightlifters on the site. I used to compete in Powerlifting but I retired when I turned 38. I am now 42 and I am thinking of picking up again.
I would be in the Masters bracket if I got back to it!
I have lifted almost as if I was still competing after I retired.
Just wondering if any one on the site lifts heavy?

Do you mean lifting heavy as in raw big numbers or just as a philosophy of working with weights up near one's theoretical one-rep max?
I started working on getting stronger in the beginning of 2007 when I was in a cast for a broken ankle and I had put a pull up bar in a doorway while hobbling about with the broken ankle before it was x-rayed and diagnosed.
But from what I've been able to read and from what I've experienced and learned over the last couple of years, when I strength train, I like to work with weights that are challenging to do 3 to 5 rep sets with.

I know Viranth lifts heavy, just in terms of raw numbers. I've seen him mention weights he is able to squat and deadlift.
Bull, good to know you caught your D early on. Me I was 6'1" weighed 280 could lift the front end of a volkswagon beetle off the ground. Never entered a competition. My nephew has though. He helps train some the Pittsburgh Steelers. My story of D, well it robbed me of all of my strength. I get cramps in my arm just brushing my teeth now. So if you got any suggestions, my ears are wide open.
By the way I am now 236lbs. Lost more than fat. Most of the weight came off my thigh muscles, which were huge at one time.
A funny thought, when in college I won a bet with some one that I could lift and move a regulation slate pool table by myself. I crawled under the table, arched my back and moved the table a good 6 foot before I set it down. Pulled some muscles with that move, but drinks were on me that night or should I say on the guy I won the bet from.

I just started lifting like a month and a half. I do a bunch of workouts to improve my biceps, triceps and chest muscles. I can only bench 150 lbs, but I weigh 133.
NicHolzhauer good to have you in the gym!
