Well, why not try fast, that's the only way to know for sure. Experimentation will give you the answer. Why not try fast for say 3 or 5 sets in a row. If none of those are improved, then you can cross it off the list. I myself, insert not quite as fast as I inject, but pretty fast. The inserters do it like a bullet.

You sound really fed up, and I can understand that. You know, as I type this I've just take my first shot of long acting for almost two years - I'm going to have at least a few days break from the pump. How about giving yourself a break, physically and mentally? Did you inject before?

If I go to shots how much insulin for my basal.I take 24 units on the pump,so 24 would make sense? And yes I have been on shots way back 4 years a go so im nervious to go back as im used to the pump.

I think it's best to have a chat with your DE or endo about going back to shots. They should be supportive of the idea of having at least a pump "holiday". We are not cyborgs, not created to deal with something attached to us 24 hours. It should be completely understood and supported that you might like a break, and they should help you work out the doses and details of a return to MDI.

That might mean this is put off a little while for you, (how soon can you see them/talk to them?) but it really is safest to discuss it with someome in person, to cover all bases.

Hi Bobby,

Sorry to hear you're still having trouble with your sets - I can well understand your frustration - I've had to change 2 sets in 24 hours as well and it is very annoying / frustrating so I've also been wrestling higher BGLs too.
Out of interest were all the sets you've had trouble with from the same box / batch?
Have you considered trying a shorter mm canula since you are so lean? Perhaps a 6mm or 9mm, or maybe even a Quick-Set instead of a Silhouette.

Subby's suggestion of a "pump holiday" may do you some good until you're feeling a little less frustrated pumping - definitely talk to your Endo and / or Diabetes Educator.

Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Generally people use less basal insulin on the pump. I believe the general rule is your basal decreases by about 20% when you go from injections to a pump. It might be best to just keep what you're using as your basal for now and increase or decrease as needed.

I tend to insert the Silhouettes slowly and rarely have any problems. Do you pinch up the skin when you insert?
