Thought I would start a thread for allof the store bought snacks that have I found to be D friendly. Could use some help building this list.

This thread should be in the "dieting" forum.

Great idea for a thread! It would be really helpful if the nutritional list was included.

Pork rinds...no carbs...no sugar..all yummy ('specially with a side of mustard to dip them in). :eating:

My big thing lately has been a serving of Breyers Carb Smart ice cream (10g carbs per 1/2 cup serving) with a spoon full of Peter Pan No Sugar Added Peanut Butter (4g carbs per serving).

YMMV! But, I've found that it has very little effect on my sugar.

How does the rest of your digestion system like the Breyers, used to go thru me like a goose on a water diet.

I've only known about my D for a few weeks, and it's still surprising to me how little I "go" compared to how much I used to.

So if it's giving me any problems, I can't tell. :)

Also forgot about the pumpkin seeds. We use to bake up a cookie sheet or two every fall when the girls carved Jack-o-Lanterns, been a while.

If you're concerned about sodium intake, you have to watch Dave's, which are salted. The nutritional information is for the kernels only. If you eat the shells, you're taking in several hundred mg.

There's a 7-11 a block from my job. I used to go in all the time for Crystal Light Slurpees but for the past 2 summers they either never have any CL flavors, or they're gross ones. I went in recently and saw a new refrigerated section they have with 2-packs of hard boiled eggs and different kinds of individually wrapped cheese snacks (string cheese, little blocks of pepper jack etc). They also have various kinds of nuts & seeds already listed in this thread. The eggs are overcooked and can be a little rubbery but I often buy a pack and leave them in my personal mini fridge at work for when I want a snack but don't want to bolus.

YAH the sodium in those is HORRIBLE!

I buy my own, shelled, and skillet-roast them with seasonings ... MUCH better tasting, and less salt.

I like my slim jims, but they can get kind of, kind of cheewwwy. these are really good, come in many flavors, you gotta eat. Summer sausage, turkey, meat snacks.

Slim Jims have been a favorite of mine since my teenage years, and especially now, they bail me out of the manic munchies.

Chewy is good . . . it makes my body think it's getting more food than it is! :D :D

I like the SJ's myself, but had some sneak in between my tooth and gum, wasn't a pretty sight getting that back out when it was all swollen and pu.....

Hey, can somebody fix the last pic so we don't have to scroll, not sure how to do it.

I am sure most are aware of these, but I use them as a replacement for ptatoe chips when I am eating sandwitches for lunch. Not as good as Wavy Lays, but they give the crunch you need. Special K Protien Plus

Mmmm.... This sounds delicious. I'll have to try this when I am off my restricted diet. This is a great thread. I am going to use my dad as a taste tester since we are both type 2s and have similar tastes in food.

I'm not salted, I'm naturally sweet :D

I love Green & Black 70/85% chocolate for a sweet snack, I have 3/4 squares without impacting my BG (of course YMMV). The 85% has less carbs.

Are these found in the regular cookie isle?

MCS

I usually find the Voortman Cookies on the end caps of the cookie Iels or in the health food Isle.

MIght not consider this a snack but when you toast these and then mix melted butter with 2-3 packets of Stevia sweetner and Cin, you will relive your days as a kid eating his/her first piece of cin toast,

Arnolds Flat Breads:

range from 15-16 grams of net carbs per 2 pieces, so 7.5 net carbs per slice. These come in whole wheat, multi grain, white wheat, and rye. Make excellent hamburger and hot dog buns, never gave me to much of a BG spike even for breakfast.

Flat out Bread (http://www.flatoutbread.com/index.html)

Can't seem to find a picture to post here. The Flat out Bread company has a whole line of D friendly products.

My favorites so far are the Flat out Baked Crackers.

15 crackers, 10g of net carbs, 6g of protien, 4g of fat, no trans fat.

Really good with my sandwitches.

Interestingly pumkin seeds are one of the few natural sources of zinc available.

I have never eaten a pumpkin seed....so here's my dumb question of the day: Do you have to shell them like you do sunflower seeds, or do you eat all of it?

Granny Shanny
09-28-2009, 03:09 PM
I eat the whole thing. I think the nutritional information is for only the inside seed, but the shell is prob'ly mostly indigestible fiber anyhow. I luv 'em!! The David's brand as an awful lot of salt, but works in a pinch.
