Okay I just tested my fasting BS after a little over 12 hours. It was 97 on my meter. I ate breakfast and only have one strip left, should I test after one hour or two?

These are generalisations, but usually, given a meal with some carbs, the two hour mark is recommended as it shows if the energy from your meal was contained by your insulin response, or not. At one hour, you may well be somewhat elevated as a matter of course, as a non diabetic may be. So the test may be informative of the temporary spike (an important thing in itself) but it is less informative as far as if you BG has returned back towards normal.

Search for the site blood sugar 101 and have a good read, for some informative discussions on normal BGs and the idea behind diabetic BG testing.

usually it's the 2 hour mark.

But quite frankly one test is meaningless. Testing over a week may tell you something.

The Reli-on meters from Wal-Mart are great and cheap.
