:o So i was off most my insulin for a week and lost 8lbs, But Monday i checked my ketones and the strip was red (moderate) so i started it again that day, finally today, back to normal, FBG 120 6 units for breakfast, B4 lunch, 125 5 units. and my weight only went up 2lbs so far. Tonight i plan on getting my Hip Hop Abs DVD out and doing a half hour or 45min.:)

I really gotta get in shape, 2 years ago when i first found out i was diabetic, i was in great shape, even tho i was overweight i had muscle mass too, could even see some abs forming, i had just lost the 37lbs from 227 to 190. and i had been down to 177 until Apr to June i fluctuated, and now that im back at 191, i really gotta kick it up a notch. I've been sick since Sunday, mostly sinus issues, but today i feel good besides my nose trying to "run" away. So im making the vow to myself again to start at this, especially my Boyfriend is talking more and more about marriage.:T So when i next see him again i wanna be looking as good as i feel.

Are there any soon to be wed out there? Or hopefuls?:D

Tiff, wondering why you went off your insulin? Thing is, the reason you lost weight so quickly would likely have been through ketosis, through being substantially high and in a dangerously high BG range. The more you become fully insulin dependent, as is likely to occur as a type 1, the more dangerous such an action might be.

You might already have this in mind, but it's important to see insulin primarily as something we need in the right measure not too much or too little... and while less insulin might be desirable, the only way to do so is to create the need for less insulin, such as through meds or activity, not a short cut of just taking less.

I reckon you do know all this! I wish you luck in your control, your other health plans, and what sounds like your impending marriage! :D

Thank you, i do know that is the reason for the quick weight loss, that was sort of my intention. I dont have much time to exercise cause i have 11 dogs at home i take care of when im not working and im working 12 hour days lately, til christmas. But im going to try to work in the half hour atleast between feeding the dogs around 6pm after ive ate and cleaned up after the ones inside all day and before i go to sleep to wake up at 4:30. Which little sleep is also another possible reason why i feel more like i dont wanna exercise by the time i get home :( Im between 29 to 45 units Total a day, thats including both Lantus and Humalog. So im not using to much yet, still in the honeymoon phase i guess. LOL hopefully ill still be in the honeymoon phase if there is a possible honeymoon soon :D

This is something to take very seriously... this is very dangerous and I think you're setting yourself up for more trouble than you realize here. This is actually a form of an eating disorder, if you did it intentionally... if you were "just" sick and eating less and lost 8lbs in a week, that would be one thing, but still very unhealthy.

29-45u sounds like you're not honeymooning very strongly.. if at all anymore. I use around 40-45u a day and I don't weigh much less than you do..

Yes, what you are describing is an eating disorder, known as diabulimia. I am hoping to be married one day. My boyfriend and I have been talking about it for awhile now. I want to lose weight anyway, but really want to be at my ideal weight for my wedding (and the way things are going I will have plenty of time), but I want to do it in a healthy way.

i know what i have is diabulimia.... but i just had to drop a few pounds :( But i know to be able to get symlin prescribed by my doc i have to have a good a1c. So im going to keep on it til i see her in October. She wants me under 7, and on July 30th i was 8.3, but since then i have been great except last week.

The problem is, not only are you losing too much weight more quickly than is healthy, but what you're losing may be things you need (muscle, even heart tissue!)

Tiffany,
I completely understand your desire for weight loss and the frustration with insulin and weight gain. I have the same struggle going on right now. I have 50 lbs to loose after having a baby, and have found it to be incredibly tough.
With that said, I have to say that you are exhibiting what appears to be self destructive behavior. There has to be a way to loose weight without going off your insulin.
In my efforts to loose this weight, the only thing that has worked for me is minimizing my insulin need by minimizing my carbs and increasing activity. I am doing weight watchers and the weeks that I eat within my point limit, but eat moderate carbs, I will not loose weight. In fact, I gain. On the weeks that I cut the carbs and eat the same points/calories, I will loose 3-5 lbs.
I am NOT a "low carb for everyone" enthusiast, but in regards to weight loss, this seems to be the only effective plan for me. Maybe it would work for you too? For me, less carbs= less insulin needed= weight loss.
I wish you the best in your endeavor and in your upcoming possible marriage!
Take care of yourself!!! PLEASE :)

Thank you, i really do wish i could do low carb, but its so hard, when im the only one in my family thats trying to eat healthy, and when the family is buying dollar cheeseburgers and dollar fries and dollar large cokes, Its hard to say, get me the $7-8 Salad with diet coke.... so i end up with a diet coke and cheeseburger. Or when my mom cooks something full of potatoes because she loves them and thats all there is to eat or else make a quesadilla or sandwich minus the lettuce :( Im a diabetic on a budget, with an unhealthy family. Not a good combo. :(

So if anyone knows some cheap low carb tricks... let me know.

Tiffany,
I sympathize with you, I really do. But, I have a little tough love for you....
You need to take responsibility for your own diet. You cannot depend on your family (who appears to not understand your condition very well) to feed you. I'm not going to lie to you and say that eating healthy is inexpensive, it's not. It takes time, preparation, planning, and money. But, think of the money you'll save down the line in health care costs by spending the extra money on healthy food. It may be that it's time for you to seek some independence and take care of yourself. You are not getting the support you need at home. Think of eating healthy as mandatory not optional for your current and future well being. Food is medicine.(Good and bad). With that said, there are lots of very inexpensive vegetables to be found. If you can't afford fresh, frozen veggies are actually full of nutrients and they are inexpensive. Do you have access to a Costco? They have lots of deals on meats, nuts, and even organic vegetables. They have low carb bagels and tortillas, greek yogurt, cheap eggs. etc...
Oh, and I have found lots of good deals on semi-homemade and healthy foods at trader joe's. They have lots of healthier alternatives to eating out.
You're going to have to do some homework.
I'm not saying by any means that low carb is the way for everyone. I actually eat moderate carbs, some people would consider it high (probably about 100 carbs/day). I was advocating the low carb diet primarily for weight loss in light of our insulin/weight gain relationship. What I AM saying is that you need to eat HEALTHY and be responsible for yourself. Find out what works for your blood sugars and stick to it. You are important and worth taking care of.
I truly wish you the best and I'm sorry you don't have the support that you need. I can't imagine doing this on my own.
We're here for you.

Take care!
Rachel

Okay, here's a short post...
Maybe someone should start a thread asking people to post their blood sugar friendly and budget friendly meals? Maybe even include nutritional info and cost?

May be helpful?

lol cool, and thank you, I do eat as healthy as i can, as like today. So far only 115carbs with 38 of those from a brownie because thats all that was around at 6am, for breakfast a PB and J sandwich :( no more eggs in the house to bring. For lunch im having Salad with grilled chicken, home"made" (put together) and green beans from lunchroom upstairs and a small lean gourmet meatloaf meal, only had to take 3 units for all of it. Still eating it, i eat very slow, so my meals stretch over 1-2 hours sometimes, while im working. I do have a costco right around the corner from work. I buy the select harvest can soups from there and i buy my fruits and hummus too, but never can buy to much. I give my mom most of my check and after im done with my bills i dont have much left for me. Which is why until im married i wont be out of the house. :( cant afford own apt with the money i give her. My mom is the main one to shop for the food for the house because im usually working. And when she goes she packs up on sweets and chips and everything bad for a diabetic. but gets upset when i want yogurt or salad bags or the fresh cut turkey and ham instead of the processed stuff. I should have atleast 300 left this time tho and with the biggest loser coming back, im going to tell her i wanna try to lose weight, and let her know im going shopping with her to buy healthy food. Mostly frozen stuff tho so i can heat it up in microwave at work, since i eat breakfast and lunch here, and Good stuff for dinner (no potato loaded meals)

Tiffany,
I hope you and your mom can work something out soon!
Not to sound preachy, but remember that you are in charge of what you eat. You do have a choice in the matter. If you're eating something just because it was the only thing there and it was the only thing offered to you, that is a choice that you are making. Others can't make that decision for you.
Sometimes it takes tons of planning and preparation to create our own environment, but it's what we have to do to be healthy and set ourselves up for success, not failure.
I know this probably reads like I'm on your case, but I really just want the best for you! :) I have MANY struggles of my own and by no means have this thing conquered.
