Hey all

This is Catie and Emily. We are 15 1/2 yr old adopted twins from ohio and we both type 1 diabetes. Catie got diabetes at the age of 15 on june 17th 04 which was our 15th bday. Emily had received diabetes at the age of 15 1/2 on 1/30/05. My sister Catie has been on humalog and lantus then the minimed 508 pump and cozmo pump on the other hand Emily has been on humalog and lantus injections. We test atleast 5 to 6 times a day. We are highschool students who lead a normal active life. We are involved in softball, track, cross country, basketball, swimming and diving, dance and we also do gymnastics. We get treated the same as like all the other students in the rest of the school except for some exceptions. We are both glad that each of us have it because if I didnt have it and Emily did I wouldnt want her to go through it by herself and thats the same way if I had it and Emily didnt she wouldnt want me to go through it by myself. So I hope you can get to kno us!

Thanks David for the website addy Emily and I apperciate it! We love ya to death.

Welcome Catie and Emily. You guys have the same Birthday as I do! Of course, I was born a few years before the 2 of you, starting to really feel old these days. :) sorry to hear the 2 of you have diabetes, but it sounds like you're both well adjusted to the changes. Have fun, pull up a chair and chat away. No questions or concerns are too small or great for us.

Hi Catie and Emily :D . Welcome to the "family". The reason I say family is that all of us on this site are like family. We are always here to help in any way that we can. I know that we do have alot of young people on this site who may share some of your experiences. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I've always been told that the only stupid question is a question not asked. :D Have fun and stay active.

Welcome to the forums! I think you will be very glad that you joined us here, we all try to help and support each other when we can, and hopefully we can do the same for you.

Diabetes is not an easy disease to manage, but if you continue to test often, eat right, stay active, and keep reading and educating yourself, i think you will do just fine ;) . I know it's rough that you both got this disease, but you aren't alone. You have us, and what's even better, you have each other (which is something most of us don't have). I would never wish this disease on anyone, but it would be nice if there was someone who could really relate and understand what I go though on a daily basis, aside from my online friends, that is ;). I think that's important, especially when going through tough times. Sometimes you need someone to lean on a little.

Anyway, welcome again! I hope you both will drop in and visit us often :)

Take care!

Catie and Emily,

When I was 15, I played school volleyball and basketball. I also rode my bike everyday that the weather would allow.

Stay active!!!! That is the best thing you can do for your circulation, and metabolism. (spelling?)

Welcome to the site! You will find lots of friendly people and advise here.

Hiya Catie & Emily! I talked to Catie a month or so ago in the Diabetes Living chat room--that was before Emily was diagnosed... So hiya again! I didn't realized you gals are adopted--my children, a son 14 and daughter 22, are also adopted. I was diagnosed when I was 12--that was 40 years ago last week!! So we've got lots in common. Glad to have y'all aboard here.

Hi Catie and Emily: A Big Warm Welcome to you both and we do
hope you enjoy this  Forum, as we do.
AAWWWWWW Twins. Too  . Are you's identical? I'm
sorry to hear you's were diagnosed with Diabetes, but I guess
it is easier that you both have it, so that you's know what each
other is feeling like, and going through so you's can lean on each
other when needed for support.
I was just wondering if it is unusual for both twins to get Diabetes.
We have 3 sets of twins on my Mom's side so far, but only my
brother(fraternal twin)got Diabetes. His twin sister(53 soon) did not.
Thankfully for her. It would be interesting to see if there are any
stats on that subject.
Boy, I sure do miss High School with all the fun sports and other
activities. I particularly enjoyed track, volleyball, gymnastics
and basketball(and running from the Boys :D ).
Well, I'm glad you's are adapting well to this disease, eating
right, testing often, etc., etc. and keeping active. Good Work.
I'm Proud of you's. As you will find, life is certainly not all Gloom
and Doom with the Big D. I know I've had a pretty good life
considering everything. Take Care......Post Often :)

Hi Catie & Emily. I know you have heard a million "twins" stories - I have one as well so please bear with me. My two oldest brothers are twins (identical). The have both been married for many years but still seem as close as the two of you do. One finish sentences for the other. They have similar clothes, drive similar cars, take vacations together, and still look exactly alike even though they are now in their fifties. I have been married twenty-five years and my wife still has trouble telling them apart! Once, one of them had a apendectomy while the other was stationed 10,000 miles away in the miltary. It was the only day the one in the military ever went on sick call! They were only separated for a few years and have lived in the same town for most of their lives. I think it's cool for them that they never have to go through things alone. So, you guys have a uique story to tell and I look forward to seeing your posts. By they way, they are both diabetic as well. Welcome to the forums, I hope to hear from you soon. AND, It's ok to post separately --- or together.
