Hello! I went to the Drs after coming back from holiday with swollen feet was given various blood tests and had a high fasting blood. The Dr refered me for a glucose tolerance test but it wasnt going to be for a month and after reading up on stuff i got worried this was too long to wait. Anyway i called the drs and managed to get another fasting blood last week, the results have come back and today the receptionist called me to say i need to see the dietician. Ive also made an appointment to see the Dr on Tuesday as i have high blood pressure as well so am hoping he will start me on treatment. I have already got lots of info etc from diabetes uk and have ben testing my blood sugar. What questions etc should i be asking the dr?

Hi Claire,

You've come to the right place for some good info. Some good questions to ask the doctor may be:

1. Will I need medications for my Diabetes? If so, what kind and dosage?
2. What kind of blood pressure medicine will I be taking, and if I wind up on multiple medications, will there be any drug interactions?
3. Should I monitor blood pressure at home? (in addition to when you see the doctor)

Hope these help, and glad to see ya here! Welcome to the family!

Hello, and welcome Claire,
you have really come to the right place for advice and support.

I am type 2 since October 03 and Diabetes UK is a great place to start, they even have some local meetings, hopefully one will be in your area.

My blood pressure is OK, so I know little about it :( but this site and these folks are gems of information).

Love Linda

Oh BTW I am in the UK too.

Welcome Claire. My suggestion would be to see the Dietician but it looks like you've already got that covered ;) . Be prepared when you see people on your health care team - do some research and write down your questions. You're going to have a lot of them, but make sure you get answers you understand. Are your feet still swollen? If so, I'd suggest you see a foot doc, or at least an endo - we want to see them back to normal. Never ever ever ignore foot problems - I'm sure you've heard the horror stories. And when you feel fustrated or worn out (and believe me, most of us do at some point) realize it's normal to feel that way sometimes and remember that we're here for info and venting. We all want to see you succeed!

Nice to meet you,
HeatherP
