I've search this site and another one and am dumbfounded to find no topics on lasix and blood glucose changes. I started taking this last month and my glucose levels went up 20 to 30 points across the board right off the bat. And, I'm also shocked that my doctor does not think it's due to the lasix. So, I'm reaching out to the Diabetes forum folks to see if any of you have had a similar experience.

I've been on Lasix for about 5 years but haven't noticed any connection to increased glucose levels. I take Lasix to help remove excess blody fluid that builds up due to congestive heart failure(CHF). It's certainly something to examine more closely. Thanks.

How is blood glucose concentration maintained during fasting?

Good question. I would think, changing the concentration of fluids by pulling fluids from the body would certainly have an effect on the glucose concentration. I just can't figure out an intelligent way to state this. I hope someone on this forum can explain this further since we are all at risk for having to take Lasix as we age.
When you take any diuretic it strips your blood of fluid, not glucose. Its the reduction of the volume of blood that increases the BG level on your meter.
Hypothetical situation
100mg/dl reading, 55dl total blood volume
if you reduce the blood volume to 50dl your BG would then read 110mg/dl.
Hopes this helps
