Ok, after shooting up 85lb in one year I decided that I need help.

I eat about 150 carbs a day and try to not each alot of fats.

I keep gaining weight. I went from 160 - 245 in a lyear.

I am a college student so I am doing 45 mins exercise 4 days a week on campus.

Dr. keeps telling me it is because of my good control.
I am T1 and have not had an a1c over 5.8 in 2 years.

I have had very few hypos or hyper glucose readings.

What could I be doing wrong?

Good control in itself shouldn't cause you to gain weight - after all, billions of people out there have excellent diabetes control (they're called non-diabetics) and they don't always gain weight quickly.

We'll need a bit more information. What exercise are you doing? Cardio? Weights?

Also, what is your calorie intake a day, and what are your eating patterns? How much insulin are you taking a day?

Not everyone agrees, so YMMV ...

But try reducing your Carb intake (say - reduce from 150g per day down to 100g per day) and replace it with green veg & protein; a mix of fat sources isn't a bad thing either.

Note - I'm Not!!! telling you to go overboard - but the veg/protein/fat combo "fills" you faster and for longer than carbs, so you may find yourself eating less.

Another advantage is that you will need less insulin, so your weight should start to come down.

Hang on, we don't have a clue about what this person is eating currently or what kind of exercise they are doing or even what insulins they're on.

You simply can't go making dietary suggestions until you know these things. I agree that a point needs to be made that fat isn't necessarily 'bad' but this could even be something as simple as 'feeding the insulin'.

Until we know this stuff it's extremely erroneous to start giving out dietary advice.

Let's just look at calories per day to gain 85 lb in a year.

85 lb/yr * 3500 cal/lb * 1 yr/ 365 day = 815 cal/day

This indicates 815 calories/day being stored as fat. Now, it may be that you are suffering from some metabolic disease or somehow mismanaging your insulin in some way to cause a metabolic inefficiency to account for this. I will leave that argument to The Type 1's here to debate.

I would first take a hard look at calorie intake with a dietary analysis using Calorie King or other calorie counting tool to get a valid measure of intake and see if its inline with accepted norms for your body metrics.

It could be you are eating too much due to a inappropriate insulin protocal. Insulin drives fat storage but can also drive hunger, a vicious cycle.

Hey mids1999, can you please give us a sample menu of what you eat during the course of the day?
