I bought an accu-chek meter today and my first reading was 75.

A few minutes ago I was feeling low so I measured and it came out 33. I thought that was impossible so I washed my hands just in case and measured with my Breeze 2 meter and it came 53 which was a lot more acceptable. I measured again with accu-check to see what was going on and it was 36, confirming the first reading.

Has anyone else noticed this kind of difference? Should I throw the accu-chek out the window?

I never used Accu-Check, but what I noticed is that when you calibrate the meter regularly, and keep the code consistent with the strips, the meters are generally more accurate. I find the One Touch Meters to be most accurate personally, but there will always be a range of accuracy. I've been told that a reading of 60 and a reading of 80 fall within the same range. You really just have to find one that you feel is most accurate and keep by that.

It's all in the tolerances. Plus or minus 20%. The lower bound for 53 is 42 (-20%) and the upper bound for 36 is 43 (+20%). That, according to manufacturers specs makes them equivalent in spite of the glaring difference. PITA but not unusual. Take both meters with you the next time you get lab work done and tahe a couple of tests on each, using different lots of strips if you have them. Compare the results of those tests with the lab work and pick the meter that is closest.

I had to switch to accu check becasue of insurance. The strips with accu check are only 9. The one touch which I like better are 22 for 100
