How many plan to get vaccinated against the Swine Flu?

Probably not but I'm due for a cruise in november.
1800 people locked up on a boat.

I'd really rather not

I'm waiting for more info to come before going for it. Then I'll speak with my Endo and see what she says.

I see my doc on Monday. This was one of the questions I was going to ask him. I normally get a flu shot but I wanted to check with him about the swine flu vaccine.

I'll probably go for it, but sometimes I just skip the yearly flu vaccine due to inertia. If I don't have a doctor appointment in the autumn, I tend to skip it. Have not yet had the seasonal flu vaccine this year either.

Um, seeing as how I have the flu right now (don't know if it's H1N1 or another type) I don't know if the vaccine would help me. I was planning to get the regular vaccine last Monday, but then I had to stay home all day due to the roads being flooded.

I don't think I'm going to get it unless my doc tells me I should. I've had the flu before and it isn't fun.. but I don't think it's too much worse than a bad cold.

Of course, I've never had it while I had D at the same time.

Huh... according to this article, diabetics are three times more likely to die from catching the flu! The Flu, Flu Shots, and Diabetes (http://www.dlife.com/dLife/do/ShowContent/type1_information/preventing_complications/flu_shots_and_diabetes.html)

Makes me glad I went straight to the doctor yesterday when I knew I had a fever.

I have a friend who is a Dr. he says No I will not be getting the swine flu the reason he gave was they have not had the time to research it as much as it needs. Added to that other then being D I am not in a high risk catagory. He just does not think it would be worth the risk for me. He is concerned about the side effects that no one knows about yet.

Two or Three of the people that I work with now have kids in schools that have had cases of H1N1.

Crazy, it actually IS a real threat.

I still don't plan on getting the vaccination, though. That is, unless the doctor recommends it. :P

Eghad... I might actually have h1n1 right now! I knew it was possible... but I got confirmation today from my colleague who was sick that she definitely had h1n1, which means I was most definitely exposed to it. :( I guess it doesn't matter as long as the treatment I'm on works.

Youch, that sucks. Hope you'll keep us all posted on how you're doing.

I had some strain of flu back when I was like 5 that put me in the hospital a couple of days due to dehydration. That was not fun. I've had it once or twice since then with much less dramatic results (thankfully).

Yep two coworkers had it here (out of 10 people), last week. It was not so bad, for them ... but I am exposed, now ... Last flu I had was almost 2 yrs ago, so not much protection from that.

Absolutely not. The only time in my life I've gotten full-blown flu is the one year I decided to get a vaccine. On top of which, my school got hit by swine flu during the spring outbreak. 3 of my own students came down with it -- students I see every stinking day. I didn't get so much as a sniffle.

If I get it, I get it. I think that stuff about diabetics being three times as likely to die is a little....paranoid. Lots of people die from the flu -- people who don't go to the doctor or hospital when it becomes necessary, most of the time. I've got my husband, his family, and mine around me to convince me to go to the doctor IF I get the flu and IF it becomes serious. Thankfully, I also have good health insurance, so I won't be hemming and hawing about going to the ER if necessary.

Humans were meant to get sick. That's why we have immune systems. Trying to hide from every single disease -- especially ones like swine flu which are, in effect, bad colds is... staggering to me.

The "suck" part about it is that with the antibiotics and such that are coming out these days, even the bugs themselves are getting more and more potent.

Pain in the arse. :P

I will probably not get it. I have had the regular flu shot and I think I am due for pneumonia shot this year. I will ask for that and for Tamaflu.

We did have a co-worker in my husband's company lose her life to H1N1 about a week ago. She got pneumonia and it took her life. She did have other health problems.

That's awful. I've not known of anyone who died from it.

I think if I have opportunity to take the vaccine, i'll take it, just as I did the Hepatitis vaccine and the pneumonia vaccine and the seasonal flu shot.

There are up to 40% of the Doctors world wide have been documented that will not administer this shot.

If you read the Insert that comes with the Vaccine and Understand what is in it you too might become hesitant to take it or give it to anyone else.

Look, Research and understand what you are doing before giving this to your children or yourselves.

Yes there are a lot of Doctors that are informed.

What I'm reading is that it's the insurance companies who are playing their trump cards, saying they won't insure the docs who administer the shots.

that happened in colorado too, husband got sick, and then his wife got sick (both with h1n1) and then a week later she was dead, died a few hrs after being taken to the hospital, died of pneumonia as well

I'm not going to take the vaccine, and i'll go into hiding in a cave if someone tries to force me to take it!

There are actually many doctors on this side of the pond who are sceptical about the vaccine. There's just too little information about possible side effects and vaccinating a lot of people will according to many doctors be a big experiment on humans.

I've never had a confirmed flu, so i don't see a reason why i'd get the swine flu. Never taken a seasonal flu shot, and probably never will. I only have the basic vaccines from childhood, plus he one for hepatitis and that's it. Might take TBC vaccine sometime soon since it's become a bigger threat here again.

I believe in my Humble Opinion that they will use the Swine Flu Shot to actually spread this disease and cause many auto immune problems like crippling arthritis.

Those folks who are unfortunate to receive this shot will shed this virus for up to 96 hours spreading the stuff like typhoid Mary.

I also believe that they will use mass media to sway the public opinion to think and believe that those who do not receive the shot will be the cause of their loved ones that will die from the poison being pumped into their veins.

They will create a false shortage of vaccine and cause people to believe they just got to be one of those who get the vaccine.

I remember seeing the Toy Corporation stage 2 Mother's fighting over the last Cabbage Patch Doll in the past as well as those Elmo Dolls. You see they created the hype. Don't fall for it.

Obviously someone is going to loose alot of MONEY if the everyone refuses.

They will stoop to force then.

Wow, that is a scary thought, but the virus is not the live virus anymore, at least it isn't in the regular flu shot so I would think it wouldn't be for the H1N1 either. But, I have no idea. I am not getting anywhere near that thing!

As I understand it, the injectable versions are killed virus for both regular and H1N1. The spray (FluMist) versions are live virus.

From Time magazine (http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/completelist/0,29569,1925947,00.html):

... pregnant women, anyone under 2 or over 49 and those with an underlying condition like heart disease, asthma or a compromised immune system should not get the spray vaccine. But the injectable version, made from the killed influenza virus, is approved for everyone 6 months old and up.

Last year was the first time in over 20 years I got a flu shot (blackmailed into it by doc) and the FIRST TIME in over 20 years that I got really sick with the flu. This pattern was a bad memory from my military days when I got sick every year when we got the mandatory shots.
This year (given what happened last year and various med records FINALLY getting to my current doc) I won't be getting either type of shot without a better fracking reason than the ones they are giving now.

Got both shots this afternoon. We have several in my area of NC, alone, who are ill with H1N1 right now. So I expect there will be an increase in the numbers soon.

I probably wouldn't have gotten the H1N1 vaccine, the only time I ever got a flu shot was when I was pregnant.

However the whole question is moot, because 2 weeks ago my son came down with a very high fever and flu symptoms. Two days later I came down with it. We both ran 102-104' fevers for about 4 days. That was the sickest I can recall being since I was a kid - I've never run a high fever like that for days as an adult. My son was tested via the NC state lab - and it came back positive for H1N1, so I know we both had it. FYI - the normal anti-viral herbs I take for bad colds/flus (Red Marine Algae, Echinacea and/or Isatis root) hardly made a dent in this virus. It felt like a tank - the body aches were very painful for two days. However Echinacea seemed to work the best along with good old chicken soup. I used homeopathic remedies extensively for my son to help with the flu symptoms.

But by being very prudent and sticking with fresh fruit juices, green smoothies and fresh made chicken soup we did get through it without any pneumonia or other complications. Note, I'm a believer that fevers should not be reduced unnecessarily. My son and I only took Tylenol once or twice when really called for. A fever over 101.5' is the way the body prevents the virus from replicating. Despite the 24 fever free CDC advice - I have read articles that you stay infectious for more like 7 days - so neither my son or I returned to school/work, until a solid week after we came down with symptoms. I had no desire to transmit that tank of a virus to anyone else.

I probably would agree that the live virus vaccine is risky, but if the shot is available to you and you have other health risks, I probably would consider getting the vaccine. H1N1 is extremely contagious - it is going to be everywhere. If you don't want to get the vaccine, at least prepare yourself for a potential week long illness and have what you need to take care of yourself if you get it. The first 2-3 days are the worst, so if you can get Tamiflu or you are familiar with anti-viral herbs, have some on hand or have a plan for getting them asap.

My father (age 69) lives with us and has congestive heart disease. We got him Tamiflu within 2 days of my son coming down with H1N1 - so my father fortunately did not get H1N1. Although I'm not sure if it was the Tamiflu or just his age that conferred some immunity.
