Tom yum tofu ... a Thai soup with veggies and tofu!

You can buy Tom Yum paste at asian grocery stores ... add quick-cooked peppers, mushrooms, and tofu, and VIOLA! Quick and satisfying. My fave pre-shredded cabbage would be good in this, too!

Tastes so good you cannot mess up, if you like spicy hot stuff -- just add paste to water as directed, and a mess of veggies of your preference.

Noodles .... ? Who needs 'em!

I had Pho at a restaurant last night and had them hold the noodles... waitress was shocked and tried to persuade me.. but you know what? it was pretty good.. it had beef and tripe and tendons. OK those last two were OK but I doubt I need to try them again!

Tendons are ... gelatin! So they make it thicker! Beed tendon is considered a delicacy!

Great idea! Load up on the cabbage instead of the noodles.
On a related note, I found myself having great numbers this weekend with Indian food (dining out) with a really off the wall idea that I'm sure nobody else has ever thought of (insert sarcastic tone of self-mockery-I just can't believe I've been so slow at doing this when going out to eat). I simply didn't eat the rice. Had a bunch of meat and sauce (Chicken Saag and Chicken Tikka Masala). I allowed myself to have one samosa. And the icing on the proverbial indian food cake: I even got to have a Kingfisher light beer (around 3 carbs but still good flavor!).

I had Pho a couple weeks ago that my wife picked up and I was just astounded by the amount of noodles they put in there! I estimate around 200 carbs were in that "single serving." I tried to eat around the evil vermicelli but ended up ingesting more carb than intended and spiking a bit, but not too bad. Good idea to just have them leave it out.

Lark, with 3 little kids (one of whom is Indian!), I do not get to eat out much but cook a lot at home. I DO go ahead and serve the meals without rice or bread. I do miss the naan though (swoon). But rice ... well, not so much.

I gave myself the choice of one samosa or a piece of Naan. It was a touch call-oh how I love Naan. But not enought to get on the BG roller coaster (I keep telling myself).

I don't cook enough Indian food, occassionally Dal. But it is always easier to stay in control when cooking the food myself so I need to explore that realm. We have just one child (almost 3 yrs.) and I was shocked that she chose Indian food on Friday.

My INDIAN kid (8 now) does not choose Indian food! (My guatemalan one does though! :D ).

If you like dal, you might want to try using Channa Dal -- it has a lower glycemic index. It was not great for me, but always worth a try.
