Anyone seen this?
Got an email from Bayer, saying they wanted me to be among the first ones in Norway (yeah right) to use this thing.
But it does look interesting. The only problem is that, the meter itself might be awesome, but the box and finger poker might be cheap and ugly.
Anyone tried this thing yet?

Actually looks really cool. Wonder how much they will cost and if they use the same test strips as the regular Contour meter.
Edit: Just read the press release and it does take the regular Contour strips. I'm a gadget guy and will definitely get one of these as soon as it's available.
That looks great.
Problem is I just switced from the Contour to the Ultra with my insurance company.
Don't think they'll go for another switch so soon.
Wonder if it works with Vista?

I live in Norway, so I don't know anything about the insurance in the US. But I got my doctor to write "Testing equipment" and no name, so I can choose whatever equipment I like (except CGM).

I was given one of these by my pharmacy when I was first diagnosed. Had no use for the USB port or the little jive book they supply in the box as I keep track of my tests in MS Word and print them out to take to my PA when I see him.
I got tired of fumbling with test strips and within a couple of weeks switched to the Bayer Breeze2 that uses a 10-test cartridge. That also came with a USB port. I thought, maybe I'll actually use this so I went to Bayer's site to see about the software and it more or less stated that you could download the software but the information was kept on their website and I'd have to buy the cable from them for $15 dollars. I passed on the whole idea.
Another concern with Bayer is their Microlet2 lancet device that comes in the box. Crude, to be nice about it. Although it's adjustable for depth, the needle on the lancet isn't much smaller than an ice pick, and when you finally find the right depth for wherever your "lancing" yourself...you know you've been stuck! The Microlet2 also provides a seperate cap for lancing "elsewhere" that isn't adjustable for depth. As many times as I tried...I never found an "elsewhere" spot that would produce enough blood to satisfy my meter, save trying it on my gums!

As for the Contour Bayer USB. Received one from my endo for free, been using it for a month now. Like the USB function, recharges on my laptop computer or on my MP3 car charger. Software included, not as good as the SiDiary stuff I'm using, but operational. Retails at US$ 70.00 over here, or prescription from the endo.

Dave Mendosa's most recent SharePost over at Diabetes Health is a paean to the Countour USB. He says that it's extremely accurate, and the one to use if you're serious about controlling your BGs.
