No it's not. Insulin wasn't 'invented', it was discovered. It's a perfectly natural chain of amino acids that your body would normally produce anyway.

When it's inside, it slowly breaks down into its component amino acids that are either excreted or used to rebuild other amino acid chains required by the body. Simple.

Erm...by that logic, meat gives you cancer. Amino acid chains are used to build muscles, provide protective coating to your nerves, build structures in your body...essentially, every fleshly structure in your body (skin, muscles, brain, eyes, organs) are built from amino acid chains and repaired by amino acid chains. Your DNA sequence is a code designed to arrange amino acid chains.

No it's not. Animal derived insulins are produced by keeping animal beta cells in a support solution and harvesting the insulin produced by them. Meanwhile, synthetic insulins are derived from e.coli bacteria, where the DNA that makes e.coli, e.coli, is removed and replaced with the human DNA sequence for an islet cell. This modified cell then produces insulin that can be harvested and bottled.

They don't 'grind up' pancreases to make insulin!

All proteins are amino acid chain combinations which metabolise down to single amino acids.

So apparently meat, vegetables, milk, cheese, eggs, pulses and nuts now cause cancer?

This may be the strangest thread I have seen on DF. If amino acids cause cancer, then we are all made up of 100% cancer.

Interesting thought though, I don't recall any studies that demonstrated a higher incidence of cancer for diabetics than non-D, Type 1 or 2.

Not to mention that cancer is actually malignant neoplasia, the uncontrolled growth of cells. Amino acids make up hormones and enzymes, and control every chemical reaction in the body... we'd die thousands of times a day without them (for instance, amino acids make up monamine oxidase, which breaks down neurotransmitters in the brain, preventing neuron death). Avoiding amino acids to prevent cancer is like avoiding water to prevent poisoning...
