Just thought of sharing this with everyone to break the ice so to speak:

Parameds and firefighters arrived reviving me from a very serious "hypo" attack. I was unconcious, not breathing as a witness claimed. Upon revival (waking up), four firefighters and two parameds were starring down at me. One paramed said "Bob....wake up". The room was silent. I looked at the four and said "my guests have already arrived and I haven't gotten the barbeque started yet?"
Everyone smiled and chuckled!
From there on, good intentions were in the atmoshpere. Everyone was happy. The paramed was especially cute! But I didn't get her phone number yet? Still working on that.

Thanx.

Bob, that is so funny.

One of mine:
I passed out in a convenience store parking lot. I awoke to paramedics standing over me, especially one cute guy. He was saying "Come on, time to wake up". I opened my eyes, looked up and told him "You have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen". He kinda grinned and said "Looks like she's coming back to us".

Too bad I am married or I would have gotten his name when I was lucid. LOL.

Humor is always good, especially in a tough situation like that.
Out of curiosity how high were you said to be?

Reading was extremely low! I believe she said 1.2? Not 100% sure. they had to put the breathing tube in me at first. But quickly removed during the stage (while unconcious) before being concious. Amazing way to truly meet someone....from the heart!

LOL, usually it's the firefighters/medics cracking the jokes to keep themselves "up". It's nice when the patients do it for us. :)

I'll never forget the only time I've been a *real* patient (in EMT class, we got to pretend a couple times) in an ambulance, after getting hit by a car while crossing the street when I was a teen - the EMT in the back with me kept me laughing the whole way to the hospital.

So far I haven't had a low so bad that 911 was called. I'll try to remember to crack a joke when I wake up if it ever does happen. LOL.

I can only imagine what a nut I would be in a situation like that... considering what a dweeb I turned into when I was waking up from being put under for the removal of a cyst on my back when I was a teenager. I remember singing the hokey pokey to myself while trying to get dressed... brought on because I was turning around and around while trying to balance well enough to put my pants on. And then, during the wheelchair ride to my mom's car, I remember telling the nurse just how nice everyone was there at the hospital, that they clearly know how to make a girl happy... while hugging the teddy bear dh had given me (we were engaged at the time) who also had a bandage on his tail area, since he went through the surgery with me lol.

In my situation, I was extremely low when they arrived. They got a reading of 17 mg/dL !!!! I came to after a dose of glucose.

Now that you have mentioned glucose, I was wondering about the quickest recover sugar? First, excellent that you recovered!!! Welcome back! I talked to a family member about glucose. They mentioned to me that glucose takes longer (approx. 15min) to take effect. I was advised to go with pure sucrose. Meaning table sugar mixed in water, OJ etc. It will hit the system much faster but will also metabolize quicker. After a sucrose dose, follow up with real food.
That is what I have been advised with. Any thoughts?

I was wondering about sugar also.
We are starting to use more honey than sugar. We have a local guy that sells honey and it is great taste. But, I was wondering what the comparative value of sugar versus honey would be - used as a food to aid hypo recovery?
btw, the apple pies my wife makes using the scrap apples from the overgrown old trees using honey - awesome delicious this year, for whatever reason. Simply delicious taste and texture. However, it does constitute quite a load for this insulin junkie - gotta take a very very small piece to be able to manage the balance act.
