2003 Honda VFR800 here.
I put a couple of thousand miles on it this year -not as much as I wanted to. I had been hoping to take a week long solo moto trip, but it just never happened.

Please consider taking the MSF course - Motorcycle Safety Foundation (http://www.msf-usa.org/)
In most states, taking the course also qualifies you with the BMV to get your riders endorsement on your license, as well.
You won't leave the course a great rider, but you'll have a good foundation in the basics, and it's a pretty safe way to learn to ride.

Yamaha V Star 650 2006. Hehehehe...been at it for years!
Not to shabby for a 62 year old lady:D
PS: The MSF course is super for new riders. Like was said..will give you a good foundation to build on.

Good for you!
With all the problems I've been having with my neck lately -- I'll be happy to be still riding at 62.
When did you start?

I want to get a cruiser, and have been saving up some money but just haven't gotten it yet. I've always wanted my own motorcycle, but the girlfriend does not totally approve.

Every time I look at this thread title I wonder if it is one of those jokes about "How many Diabetic Motorcycle Riders does it take to change a light-bulb?" :D
Seriously I tried a moped once and was petrified  Now get me on a snowmobile and that's a different kettle of fish altogether ;)

My dh has a Harley V-Rod. He's not diabetic (yet)... but as soon as we get out of this money crunch I'm going to take Georgia's motorcycle class to see if I want my own bike. I can't control his, because I can't reach the pedals lol.

Me!!!!
I own a '02 Buell Blast. I haven't ridden since Dx, but it's not due to the diabetes, but rather a combo of money & allergies causing positional vertigo for most of the year (which started the same day I was diagnosed w/D.)
I fear I'm going to just have to sell my baby...really don't want to, but not only am I in a totally new area with crazy, windy roads (when I'm used to relatively straight roads in AZ) but I'm terrified I'd have a vertigo attack when leaning to go around a curve. Logically, I know if I've been taking my Benadryl regularly beforehand, I'd be fine as I've *never* had an attack when I take it 2x/day, but it's something I haven't been able to get past yet. :(

You go girl:D ...there are many nice bikes that are low enough for us ladies or can be lowered...had to have mine taken down two inches in order to be able to flat foot. I am only 5'2"

Yeah... funny you mention the lowering. I just found out that this was possible today at work lol. One of my coworkers was telling me I might need to lower a bike... I'm 5ft2 as well. :)

Check out the Buell Blast - it's made with women & teens in mind - I'm 5'5" and have the taller seat (there's one that's 2 inches lower.) The down side is they're no longer making it as of 2010...but now's the perfect time to look at the 2009 model in end-of-year sales.

Yeah, that's a lot of bikes! Including the "several" dirt bikes, that's like 1 for every couple years!
I've only had one...and it just fell over - well, to be fair a storm BLEW it over, it didn't just fall over by itself - into a corner where I can't even get it back up on it's wheels by myself to see what else broke in addition to the mirror that I *can* see! Grrrrrrrr...

2008 Harley ultra classic. Excellent bike, more stable, cruise control. When I can no longer hold it up the next bike will be a 3 wheeler. I'm a 55 yr old woman.
Started driving sportster 2006, it was too tippy.

I did own a Motorcycle but sold it because it became to dangerous to ride on the streets. It was a Yamaha 2005 Majesty 400cc.
Past motorcycles:
1985 KTM 250 cc Motorcross
1990 Kawasaki 440 street bike
1980 Honda XL70
1970 Honda 50
My current bike is a Ducati GT1000 2008. Absolutely love riding and have done since I had my first motorcycle in 1970. I was diagnosed in May this year and at the moment I am managing on diet and exercise. One of the main reasons I try so hard to control my diabetes with diet and exercise is because I know that it will extend the time that I can remain a licensed rider without concerning myself regarding the taking of Meds and Hypo's.

So eat to live - and live to ride.
Sounds about right to me. :D

i'm an enduro man, myself.
currently i "own" (i say own but i really mean my dad owns it but you would think i do with how much i ride compared to him) a 2004 Suzuki DRZ400s with all the mods. I absolutely love riding through the desert trails:D
eventually i want to save enough money to get either a honda CRF450x or XR650r thats baja worthy and hopefully in a few years time race the baja 1000 (a lifelong dream of mine)!!!
in fact, im not sure if there's ever been a diabetic to compete in the baja...who knows, maybe i can be the first!

After riding an eclectic mix of bikes for 40 years i found that i was having too many close calls so about 8 years ago i reluctantly sold my last bike (BMW R65LS) and bought a Miata and have been having almost as much fun ever since:)

Just found this thread. :D
BMW R1200GS here, my g/f is on a Kawa Ninja 650R (3 inch dropkit, she's 5'1").
Been riding for quite some years now, all over Europe and the Alps. My previous bikes were:
'95 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883

BMW 650 Funduro here.... been riding for about a year. Love it, but ready to step up to a bigger bike (1200GS? - I think so!)

I've been riding most of my adult life, I currently have a 2007 Royal Star Tour Deluxe and do 3-4 long 2000K mile trips a year. There are few things that equal the peace and serenity that you get riding a new road. You can do a trip in a car, but you can become the trip on a motorcycle.
