I am a new member searching for info on how to deal with vision loss and my mom's need for assistance with her shots. Any feedback is welcome. My mom and I live approx. 300 miles apart. Any recommendations are welcome and if anyone knows if she would qualify for any type of nursing or in-home care would be appreciated. I don't know much about her care, yet -- but I do recall her mentioning that she tried some type of insulin pin once and it did not work. Is this worth pursuing once again? Thanks.

The Pen has worked well with me. It takes a little practice. Should be a nurse that can help with the shots when visiting the doctor. Good control can slow vision loss. A lifestyle change is the hardest part of dealing with this disease.

I'm not sure how it would be handled now, since now most (many?) people don't take a standard amount of fast-acting at one time, but I know when I was young (until I was old enough to do it for her mysef) my mom (who was blind) had a visiting nurse come once a month (or maybe twice a month) & fill her syringes with the correct amount of insulin so all she had to do was grab one & inject.

I'd ask her doctor's office. I'm sure they have some idea of where she can get help.
