How many hours after you eat do you test for corrections? My son was told 2 hr after meal when he took the shots, but now that he's on the pump they told him every 3 hrs. Just wanted to know what everyone else does.

I usually test two hours and consider how much insulin is left still working (IOB) and then decide whether to correct.

I usually test two hours and consider how much insulin is left still working (IOB) and then decide whether to correct.
Normally 2-3 hours afterwards I test to see what is going on, but often I am not near a meter 2-3 hours after eating, especially when out with friends or at dinner with others, and in such cases I test when I get home.
I'm not really strict about it. It depends what I ate. If it's something I know pretty much how I'll react, I'm not so worried. If I wasn't sure about the bolus/carb ratio, I'll check anywhere from an hour to three.

Thanks, sounds like he should be doing a better job counting the carbs and he wouldn't have to correct all the time.
