Hi everyone! I'm new here so I'm very sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot!

So I'm 22 years old and I haven't been tested for diabetes recently, but I want to know what you think. For the past couple months I have be continuously getting very weak, to the point where I have to lay or sit down and even then I feel like I'm going to faint and I am extremely shaky. The only thing that seems to help is drinking a glass of orange juice or peach juice. And now my left thumb is burning and nothing is getting rid of it. I have even put ice on my thumb, but that seems to only make it worse. On top of it all I am trying to lose weight. I'm not obese, but I do need to lose a few pounds. Yet at the same time, I've noticed I don't have a big of an appetite as I used to.

I just don't know if I should go see my doctor. I'd rather not. I'm afraid she's just going to tell me it's my weight, but that's something I'm already trying to work on.

Thanks a bunch guys!

[edit]: Also it runs in my family. My mother has it and her dad had it.

Go see the doctor. Weight loss, fatigue, being thirsty, urinating often are all signs of diabetes. You may not be, but find out. Ask your doctor to check you for diabetes. I was diagnosed when I went to the doctor. On Monday, I thought I had a cold, but no cough. Tired. weak, sore joints. By Wednesday (you know, waiting it out???), I could not walk to the curb to put out the trash without having to sit in a chair and rest. Friday, my wife (after beating me about the head and shoulders with a wet noodle) encouraged me to go to the doctor. I had worked a lot in July and August and was glad I was losing weight. The doctor told me that he could not find anything, but that I had a slight fever. Then he said, let's take a urine test (maybe the fever is from a prostate infection). He came back in about 5 minutes and said "you have diabetes."
You should definitely find what is causing the weakness. You are 22 and should feel much better with more energy. Let us know what you find out. Best wishes, Larry
