YouTube - Sugar: The Bitter Truth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM)
This is an hour long lecture by Dr. Robert H. Lustig M.D. Professor of Pediatrics Division of Endocrinology, University of California San Francisco and produced by the USCF's Osher Center for Integrative Medicine.
It is an outright admonshment of fructose as THE cause of metabolic syndrome: obesity, type 2 diabetes, CHD, and hypertension. He addresses political and social reasons for adoption of HFCS and he delves into the biochemical reasons why fructose is bad for us. It is long but very engaging and powerful.
This is something you really must see. Watch it!

Many Thanks for posting this John.
Very interested in the parallels he draws between the long-term metabolic effects of ethanol and fructose.

That was very interesting, John. Thanks.
At one point when discussing the biochemistry of both Ethanol and Fructose, he described the production in the liver of Free Fatty Acids and how those enter the muscle cells and cause Insulin Resistence. This is the first I had heard of this so I did a little checking online. I found some research articles talking about inhibited lipolysis in the liver and a few others about IR induction in muscle cells (such as SpringerLink - Journal Article (http://www.springerlink.com/content/t1u78115006t3867/)) but I found no summary articles describing this. Do you know of any?

No I don't. There's a lot of bio-chem going on. I am trained in business.
I'll send a request to my webMD contact.
This video focuses on fructose. He claims that sucrose is in no way bad for us. While his claims about fructose make sense, I'm not sure his brushing off of sucrose and other 'oses is based on any study. It does seemingly settle the Japenese paradox though. He also implies that fats are bad in at least one place. I hate implications and apparent assumptions; which is why I like most of this video. I think anybody who watches is has to think twice about the food they eat.

I doubt this is exactly the same as what you are looking for, but it's close.

Did you mean "Glucose" here John..?
Yes of course. Sucrose (table sugar) is glucose<->fructose.

From the presentation:
If you want to say that it's all about diet and exercise, then you have to explain this to me...
