Am I the only one who continued to lose a lot of weight even after starting on insulin? I'm still losing a lot.

I've been on insulin for 2 months and still have lost 8 more pounds. Since being diagnosed last August I have lost 45lbs!

Anyone else have this kind of weight loss?

Is that a good thing? Are you overweight and dropping to normal, or normal and dropping to way too skinny? If you are dropping to your healthy weight, it might be because you are more aware of your diet now. If you are losing too much weight, how are your bg levels?

When i was first diagnosed ....i did keep losing weight for a while... for about a year i think, then one day...it all kept coming back...i was going up a size every three months...but now im pretty much leveled off ...i havent gained or lost anything in a while

I want my weight to stabilize. Before I was diagnosed I was 215lbs. Not bad considering I'm 6'1"

I'm now 170lbs. My bgs are good. 100 or so in the morning and before meals. Usually under 140 2hrs after a meal, but I'm eating a lot less.

I think I'm not eating enough. If I eat a meal like I did before I was diagnosed my bgs go up over 200. My doctor told me to take more insulin and add more carbs

It will probably take a while to figure out your insulin: carb ratios. Once you have that down, your weight will probably come back up. Knowing how much insulin to take for the food you eat is difficult. I still haven't perfected it, and I have been working on it for several years. Do you have a nutritionist or somebody who can teach you to count carbs?

yea sounds like you need a nutrionist

I had 2 classes with a nutrionist. Problem was that I was the only type I in the classes. It was more about how to lose weight.

I count carbs, and take 1unit for every 15g.

I'm afraid to eat to much and end up with high BG's.

You should really try to get a one-on-one meeting with a nutritionist. If you know your carb ratio, you should be able to eat as much as you want and just compensate with insulin. Timing is important too. If your sugar is high, you should take your shot a little while before you eat. Humalog starts working right away, Regular starts working about 30 minutes after you take it. If your bg is high, take the shot, then wait 30 minutes or so for it to drop before you start eating. My son is also on a 1:15 ratio. He is on a sliding scale for dropping bg also. 1 unit drops him 50. So if his bg is 250, he is eating 60 grams of carbohydrates, he will take 2 units for the high bg and 4 units for the food, and wait 15-30 minutes before eating.

He used to be on Regular, but he has been on humalog for over a year now. They just gave us a prescription for Novolog, but he hasn't used up his humalog yet.

He takes NPH in the morning and at bedtime.

My class wasn't like that. It was like a one size fits all kind of thing.

I was also the only person under 50.

Soaking wet I might weight 145
I told my Nutrionist she couldn't help me and walked out. (she weighed about 225 and on one in the class was under 200+)

I count carbs, and take 1unit for every 15g.

I'm also doing the carb counting with the same 1/15 doseage

I'm not worried about high BG, Novolog will cover what I eat, I just am not hungrey.

I had gotten upto 188 lbs before I got diabetes in Nov of 1998 then by the end of January I was down to 148 and I am 5'10. Then in 2000, I was up to 160 then I got the pump, now I am at 195, a little hefty and I wish I could drop back down to about 170.

;) Listen to all of you lite weights.

I'm 5'11" and was 180 before I was actually getting fat. I'm a member of the heavy frame club.

I was 274lbs before I became ill and was 239lbs when diagnosed a month a go.

Gained back (mainly water muscle mass) back to 249.

i'm on the quest to lose some, excersizing is helping, went on a hike sunday.

Patriot - Ed is 6' & weighed in at 109 today and that's no joke! You kind of sound like the Hulk to me!

Seriously - take the advice and get a 1 on 1 visit with a dietitian/nutrtionist. We can't compare apples to kumkwaits cuz they just "ain't" the same!

Trying to gain when we have to watch all of the carbs is so difficult. To me, that's what puts the "meat on our bones". I wonder that anybody can gain a single pound on the diet needed to control the bg's. Grilled chicken breast and steamed broccoli just doesn't pack the calories needed for a gain.

Food for Thought: They did tell Ed to buy the Choice & Glucerna drinks and use them in ADDITION to his meals. He drinks them with a snack instead of coffee or tea.

When i got diagnosed I weighed in at 115 at 5'5 with a medium body frame....I have an hour glass shape so i looked like a rail....because of my frame my bones were sticking out....i look at old pictures and im like oh my god i cant believe how i looked and didnt want to go to the doctor....now i weigh so much, although the most i have gone up to is 152, my doctor says im at my "healthy weight" whatever that means...i mean i dont look fat, i look considerably different then i did two years ago...but i feel much better now, and everyone i see says i look much much better with some meat lol....if there were no such things as numbers i think i would be fine with my weight...but, its seeing the number that kills me!!

I am exercising alot so i figure in a couple of months i will lose some more weight...i havent weighed myself yet...i will get weighed on friday...I can definatly see a difference already since i have added more cardio and weights to my workout instead of just walking and running all the time....They told me at the gym if you mix cardio with weight training you can lose weight faster...ill try anything to fit in those size 4's again ahahahaha

BY THE WAY...FOR ALL YOU MEN OUT THERE...GIRLS LIKE GUYS THAT ARE MEATY, WELL I DO ...ANYWAY LOL i dont want a guy that is the same weight or thinner than me lol

Had an A1C of 6.8 in early June. Down from 9.4 when I first started injections in Feb.

My endo wants me to start even more injections to cover my snacks. I can handle 4 injections, but more than that is a major pain.

For example, for a snack at work, I have to leave my desk, go to the mens room then inject. Same thing in the afternoon.

I tried it a few times, but its such a pain.

BG's have been good between 70-180 most of the time. Have not had a bg over 220 in a month. Not bad considering before i started on injections my bgs were always over 300.

Thats why my endo wants more injections. She thinks my A1C could be near normal with shots to cover my snacks.
