I have a doctors appointment at last. It is at a well know diabetic clinic in MA. I am very excited and I hope things shape up because I think I might be starting to some out of the honey moon stage my sugars have been breaking new levels, higher then ever before, and thats eating how i should and better. On top of being excited I am scared to death though. I am terrified of needles and I mean terrified. To a ridiculous point. I am 18 and will be 19 the 6th of December and i still freak out if i have to get a shot. To the point of crying and breaking down. I am just terrified. I do not think i have the inner power to give my self shots every day. I dont even want to go to the appointment and i have been waiting for months. I am just so scared, and if i have insulin its real. help full thoughts anyone.

Do you check your sugar much?
I've heard that's worse than the shots.
Also, don't the insulin pens sort of "hide" the needle as well? If it's the sight of it that frightens you, they could help.
Good luck to you.

don't worry about the needles, you will get used to it quick, better to have a little discomfort now than something worse later. :T

LOL the pens don't hide the needles.....but the needles are super tiny, I mean you can get them bigger but I ask for the smallest, thinest ones possible LOL

I don't know how much it helps, but I am 29 and I've been injecting insulin for 9 years and if anyone other than a phlebotomist (blood draw) comes at with me a needle I will completely flip out - like all out panic attack type of flipping out, it's not just a fear thing. I just can't handle it at all. Yet I can stick myself without any problem.
So, I don't want to try to convince you that it will be okay, because I can't know exactly how you feel, but I wanted to say that you can very definitely be afraid of shots but do just fine giving yourself insulin.. although it might take a while to get there :)
FWIW I also still wince and close my eyes when I poke my fingers.. I don't think I will *ever* get used to it... insulin in comparison, is really much easier.
