Welcome aboard, Ken. I think you've just found a goldmine of information on everything from testers to diet! :D :D :D
There's a lot of information floating around "out there", but this gang will give it to you straight, as long as you realize that there's no one answer to any question! Each patient is so unique, and some remedies work for some and not for others. Even more exasperating, some remedies work for us one day, and don't work a week later. But having the support of forum members who've been there - done that, makes so much of the journey easier to cope with.
So jump in & tell us more about yourself & how things are shaping up for you . . . have you been prescribed any meds? What tests has the doc done so far? We're nothing if not nosy . . . ;)

Hi Ken and welcome. There's tons of advice on here, so ask away! What type are you? if you're t1 are you on a pump ifso which one? if not which insulins do you take? how often? are you counting carbs? are these questions annoying you? :D
No matter what type you are, one thing that helps ALL types of diabetics is, test, test, test as often as you can (and afford!).
Most blood meters do the same things, in almost the same time, it's just a matter of choosing one which you like the look of. Most of us long timers have more than 4 from different mfrs. If you don't like it after say 2 weeks, you can always get a new one (often for free, if you ask on here:D). Good luck and see you around the boards.

Welcome, Ken! (I'm sure glad you told us your name cause your screenname made me  )
You've found a great place with tons of info! I just wanted to second what Shanny said - just remember that what works for one of us May or May Not work the same for you. Diabetes is as individual for each of us as much as we are all individuals. You'll see "YMMV" (Your Mileage May Vary) around here a lot, and even if someone doesn't say it, remember it does still apply!
One other thing to consider about meters is the cost of test strips. Depending on brand (and where you get them) you can pay anywhere from 15 cents a strip to over a dollar a strip. Doesn't help if you get a free meter, then can't buy enough strips, so take both things into consideration when looking for one.

Welcome to the forum, Ken.
Be sure to test often, limit your carbohydrate intake, and get in some form of exercise if you're able and not already doing so.
