Hello, I have never posted to anything in my life so here goes...I am a type 1 diabetic male. I have been a diabetic on insulin for 47 years. I am now 54. I am not on a pump and my only complication is retinopathy and this past year I started to pass protein (proteinuria) of some mild significance. I am taking 22 units of humalog 75/25 in the AM and humalog as a sliding scale in PM. I see 20/20 with glasses, I don't have neuopathy, nephropathy, ED or PAD or microvascular ateriosclerosis (except eyes). My A1c's runs 5.8 to 6.1. What I am is truely blessed. I run my own busness and I work very very hard both mentally and physically. I am 5' 4" tall and weigh 172 LBS. I am stocky and very muscular. I have two teenage children and a wife who is 6 years younger than me. Maybe that has something to do with it. We are very happily married and have a strong Christian faith. I have been a medical professional for 30 years. I would like to help those with diabeties. My suggestion is control control control. I test about 4 times a day on average and more often when I start to mess up. I eat mostly fruit and vegies and take massive amounts of omega 3 oil and other suppliments. Thanks for listening. Any questions feel free to contact me.

Hi, ETI, and welcome. You've been on the T1 ride much, much longer than I, so I hesitate to ask...but here goes: You test only 4 times a day? I wish I had the confidence that I was maintaining control with so few tests!

I hope you'll contribute often, and feel welcome and included by this wonderful group of people.

Welcome. Glad to have you.

I am taking 22 units of humalog 75/25 in the AM and humalog as a sliding scale in PM.

So you take a shot of NPH in the mornings and that's it for your basal isnulin? You have no hypo issues? Great A1C's. You are very lucky to have found a regimen that fits your body's cycles so nicely.

Welcome, Those are admirable A1Cs. I look forward to learning more about what works for you. Do you also use a basal insulin like Lantus?
