Hey guys

I've been struggling for months with my fasting numbers and am looking for some insight to what other NPHers do in the evening.

I take 9u NPH at bedtime only.

I find if I go to bed high (around 8-10 mmol/l) I generallly wake up with a decent fasting #. If I go to bed in my target range (4-7 mmol/l) I wake up high.

I'm pretty sure (but cannot document) that when I go to bed in my target range, I'm going low through the night and am having a rebound in the early morning which leads to the higher fasting numbers.

But I struggle with the notion of allowing myself to go to bed high just so my morning reading is good.

What does everyone else do? What is your target number for bed time, and do you have a snack to offset the coming peak?

Please don't tell me to switch basal insulins...that's not the advice I'm looking for ;)

I just went back to NPH last night to help control my fasting blood sugar. In almost a year I've been struggling with any other way to get it down, the NPH is what does it. I set my alarm - have a syringe pre-loaded and do the shot at 11:30pm. If I do it earlier, I do the same thing, go too low and rebound but if it do it around midnight.. it's hitting me about the time the Dawn Phenonemon kicks in. Good luck!!! :) I know it's such a struggle.
