A few years ago my doctor (gyno)said that I might have PCOs that puts me in high risk for diabetes. I got pregnant and everything was fine. A few days ago, I had a lot of tingling/pins and needles sensation in my legs and I went to a doctor. He said neuropathy, but I told him about my concerns. I am going for a physical next Wednesday. Meanwhile, being worried, I bought a glucose monitor and the first random reading before a meal was 94. Then, after 2 hrs after lunch, it was 168!!. A couple of hours later, it was down to 90. I am not sure what is going on. It definitely looks abnormal to me, but I don’t have enough experience to figure out what it means. When I did the glucose tolerance test when I was pregnant ( a couple of yrs ago) it was normal. With one data point, do I need to be concerned?
I am stepping up my activity level (with a toddler, it was difficult) and am trying to eat better. With PCOS, is it better to just go on Metformin? My doctor said that he will prescribe that after the physical based on my PCOS diagnosis.

Welcome Crekha. I'm sure your doctor will draw blood work at your appt. that will let you know where you stand diabetes-wise.
Metformin is often given with PCOS, to help with insulin resistance. It will also regulate your menstrual cycle if that is an issue. I was quite irregular until starting metformin, but have had a regular monthly cycle since then.
Let us know how your doctor's appt goes. Having a more active and healthier lifestyle will benefit you whether you have diabetes or not.

Welcome to the forums.
It would seem from what your saying that your seeing numbers that would most likely call for some action to be taken to keep the problems as little as possible.
I am not an expert as linda on "women" and or medications. I just know that is it something you need at the moment then it probably is a good idea.
Perhaps when you are able to get your numbers in line better you might have the option to handle your life with diet and exercise should you wish. But its too early to know that and with your maternal issues I wouldn't want to make any recommendations because I have nothing to base them on.
Your most likely lucky that you have ability to do some good things for your self. Best to be aware and take positive actions that can beneficial for the long run. Lots to learn in time that will be helpful and many here are more than willing to aid you along with your health providers. Many of us have been able to improve our situations very similar to yours with good results so don't let it overwhelm you, it will all make sense in time.
I would never rely on a solitary data point for complete reason to worry let alone a diagnosis.
That being said, the follow-up you are doing is wise.

this does not mean you're a diabetic, that is normal for your count to rise that high after you eat normal is 85-101 after you eat 130-160 you're only 8 higher. i know this because i'm type 2 and i'm not pregnant 6wks
and everything is high but i'm also scared because this is my 1st being diabetic so i don't know. iwas on metformin witch isn't bad and it also helps you to lose weight i'm now on nauvalin R and N witch is shot and long lasting insulin

Thank you for your replies!
Being paranoid, I did another test the next day after dinner, 1 hr after dinner the reading was 109. The fasting level was 85. I guess I will see the doctor and see what he says.
I got pregnant on Metformin too, if you are able to walk, it really helps keep sugar levels down i think. I was put on bed rest for most of my pregnancy for other reasons, so was not able to get the benefits from being active.

Hi guys I haven't posted for some time, was a bit busy!
Went to see the endo for the first time on the 13th of November. She reckons the pre-d that they picked up is a secondary result because of something else, because I don't have any of the other risk factors.
She tested for tumors on the adrenal glands as well as some or other gland in the back of your neck of which the name escapes me :). Going to see her again on the 3rd of Nov to get results.
She also suggested that I go for a OGTT in Nov as the previous one was in June. I'm thinking to ask her to test for LADA as well while she's busy, even if it is just to give me peace of mind.
Have any of you experienced secondary diabetes? AS I've read it's very rare only about 2% of all diabetes is secondary.
