I'm noticing that there is probably about 15/20 units left in the cartridge when I get the empty cartridge alarm. When it alarms it stops delivery, even though there is still insulin in the cartridge. Seems like a lot of waste. :(

I measured my waste because i was curious. It came to 6 units. With the amounts I take that is but a drop in the bucket for me. I do realize that some here may not have as goos as insurance as mine and that it may be a issue to some. Could your endo write the script for a higher amount to allow for wastage. Just tossing a old set with the short leader is a 11 unit waste alone. Least that is the amount it takes to prime mine.

I;m with ya, it seems like a big waste, but its really one bolus or so. Thats the way I try to look at it. :)

15 units is 3 or 4 boluses for me. I was curious if it was my pump or all pump, if there might be something wrong with mine. I may be wrong about just how much is left. Sometimes its hard to tell with the way the cartridges are marked. This is new for me because the last two pumps continued to deliver until there was nothing left.
I should use the shorter tubing...it takes 25 units to prime the 42 in tubing! Really didn't think about that. I thought that was what I was using with the Cleos but I think they're 30 inches. Got samples of the Orbits with 42 in tubing and was a bit shocked when I saw 25 units primed!
Anyway, thanks for your replies. I feel better now that I know its just the way the pump is. Don't know why they do that though?

If it makes you feel any better, my cousin is a pharmacist and he assures me that you're actually getting 10-20 units extra in each vial of insulin, so I figure that that makes up for the loss in the cartridge. :)
(And I was thinking 6 units was a bolus, 15 would def. be 2-3 for me!)

I'm over it. :D To be honest, I've had to change it way before empty because otherwise I'd be getting an alarm in the middle of the night. Hate doing it, but what do ya do? I've just never had a pump that alarmed before it was actually empty before which is why I asked, really just wanting to make sure its the way the pump works and not an issue with MY pump.
Thanks for your replies!!!

What level is your alarm set at? I have my set to alarm when I am down to 10 units.
