Hello:
I am a new member as of today. I have been a type 2 diabetic since Aug 1995; 68 years old, and retired Army Colonel.
I need to know how to treat injection site swelling/thickness. I just noticed it and will avoid it until it heals. Any ideas on how to treat my Lantus injection site problem?
Thanks,
J D

Hi J D. Can you explain this problem in a bit more detail? How long have you been injecting? How much do you typically inject and where? What kind of swelling, does it occur quickly, or has it built up over months/years? You mention healing, does it get red or sore?
Basically, if it's a buildup of lumps and fatty tissue under the skin over some time, it would be pretty normal, the effect of repeated insulin use on your bodily tissues. Typically won't be obvious straight away, though. But if it is major swelling, soreness, etc, if an injection then comes up immediately, that kind of thing, it sounds like an allergic reaction to the insulin or something in the preparation, and you should get to the doc to discuss options.

Also, it could be an infection...again, see the doc.
Does it happen at every injection site? Has it gotten worse over time (if you've been on Lantus for a while?)
