back at the end of february 2007, both toenails on my big toes (left & right) fell off... the right one grew back and after 6 months on lamisil last year, the right one finally is growing properly, the top half that gets clipped when it's time is the one that's slightly yellowish and the new growth is nice and white...
here's the problem... the one on my left foot grew back, but only halfway, fell off last year and hasn't grown back in over a year, and i have to change the bandage everyday because the toe leaks and bleeds...
i went to the doctor this afternoon and a silver healing pad was put on the raw skin where my nail used to be, then it was wrapped up and the doctor wants me to get an x-ray in case i have a bone infection, which i wouldn't feel because i have no feeling in my feet from the ball of the foot to the tip of my toes, on both feet...
simple question here... has anyone here ever had a bone infection? it might also be called "osteomyelitis"...

I had a bone infection in right foot, had to have 6 weeks of iv antibiotics treatment 3 times a day at home. did it my self , had a pick line and hooked everything up to it.

i went back the ER today because my toenail bed was oozing yellow/green stuff, so the doctor checked the x-ray, and no bone infection, thankfully... however, he said i had cellulitis in my toe and put me on two (2) antibiotics, one i take twice and a day for 10 days, the other i take 4 times a day for 10 days...
this makes 4 times i've had cellulitis, 3 in my right leg and this is the first time in my left... really weird... he also took a culture to see if the infection is bacterial or fungal... i go back for a control check-up on friday...
these pills are gonna knock me out though... nausea, headaches, diarrhea, heartburn, etc...
novo-lexin (cephalexin) 500mg (4x a day)
side effects:
headache
mild diarrhea
mild stomach cramps
sore mouth or tongue
vaginal itching or discharge
Less common or rare:
abdominal tenderness
diarrhea (watery and severe; may also be bloody)
fever that appears after starting the antibiotic
severe abdominal or stomach cramps and pain
unusual bleeding or bruising
Rare:
blistering, peeling, or loosening of skin
convulsions (seizures)
decrease in urine output
hearing loss
joint pain
loss of appetite, nausea, or vomiting
skin rash, itching, redness, or swelling
trouble breathing
unusual tiredness or weakness
yellowing of the eyes or skin
i think almost everyone has had some form of cipro (ciprofloxacin)
common:
headache
mild diarrhea
nausea
less common or rare:
diarrhea (watery and severe; may also be bloody)
jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
joint pain
muscle pain
pain, inflammation, or swelling in shoulders, hands, or calves of legs
pain, swelling, or rupture of a tendon
severe abdominal or stomach cramps or pain
rare:
chest pain
confusion or changes in thought patterns
fainting
irregular or fast heart rate
signs of an allergic reaction (hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, tongue, or throat)
skin rash, especially if skin is blistering, loosening, or peeling
this is ridiculous... 6 more pills a day to fight an infection that should have been found over a year ago... eh, the medical system, i guess we can't live without it but it sure sucks some times...

you might want to eat some yogurt to replenish the good bacteria in your body Antibiotics can kill ythe good bacteria along with the bad, that's why you get diarrhea

i'd love to, but i'm allergic to milk...
For anyone who needs "lamisil" there is a product called "Formula 3" that cures fungus I bought it on Ebay but most nail salons can get it. Cures as it grows out and doesn't come back the plus is no liver damage!

thanx... i used to do nothing but feel sorry for myself when these kinds of things happened, but now i treat and keep and eye on everything, rest a lot and try not to overdo it, since this is on something i walk with everyday, it's not like i can stop using my feet...
i'm just glad i have a wonderful support system both around me physically and here on the board and online... :wavey:
