I am new to this forum, but was diagnosed with Type II about ten months ago. Severe blurred vision resulted in testing and was above 600bg. Started on 500mg Metformin 2 times daily and bg dropped a bit. Doc moved me to 1000mg 2 times daily and bg dropped a bit more. Doc added Actos in evening as morning fast number was still high. Several months later had a problem with numbers too low. Reduced back to 500mg Meformin 2 times daily and Actos in evening. Again, trouble with numbers too low. I stopped taking the Actos 2 days ago and so far bg numbers are still really good. I am monitoring.

Side effects - have had diarrea since began Metformin 10 months ago, have also had 20lb weight gain and not eating anything.

Suggestions?

Thanks. I do not count carbs and in fact have not had to change my diet much at all. I typically do not eat many carbs at all, nor do I have sodas, candy, sweets, etc as they really do not interest me. I eat a lot of green vegetables, beans, beef, pork, chicken and fish. I had been testing twice a day. Since I stopped the Actos I am testing about 4-5 times a day and number is 107-115.

It's a sugar management disease. Start counting them and examine where they are in your diet. Come up with daily and meal totals. If you can measure it, you can manage it! If you are gaining weight, you likely have too much sugar somewhere. In my world bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes are sugar.

Thanks. I don't do bread, rice, pasta, potatos, etc. I am not on Atkins but for all practical purposes about the same.
