Hello all,

I've been a member for two years now, and it seems that I now need to find a good specialist in the Phoenix Metro area, preferably in the East Valley (Gilbert/Chandler/Mesa).

I have simply been taking 10-11 units of lantus daily, which had kept me at an A1c of 7.0-7.1. I had only been under the care of my general practicioner, who is a "certified diabetes caregiver" by United Healthcare.

I have recently noticed that my lunchtime bg gets into the 230-240 range 2hrs pp. My gp gave me a sample of novolog to bolus with prior to eating...suggested that I try 5units at first. I'm 38 yrs old, 6'1'', weigh 180 lbs, with a body fat % around 8. Needless to say, the first time I used the 5 units before dinner, my bg fell to 40. Since then, I have noticed that I need 2 units before breakfast (where I consume about 20g of carbs), and I am normally b/w 80-120 2hrs pp. Lunchtime, I seem to need much more (3-4 units), unless I have next to no carbs. Dinner time, once again I seem to be good with 2 units. I will wake with a fasting reading anywhere from 80-120, sometimes as high as 140-150.

I realize I have much to learn about bolusing, learining when I need insulin the most, etc. Can anyone out there recommend a specialist in the Phoenix area who might have experience with healthy, active type 1 diabetics?

Thanks as always! You all are a great resource!

I would try Dr Bekele out of Scotsdale. Excellent physician.
