Hi gang, newly diagnosed with all the symptoms.
I was wondering, when your blood sugar levels are dropping, what do you take?
Thanks, all!

Hi and welcome,
If I test and below 65 I will correct, I used to take glucose tablets but they send me high and leave me feeling ill, so I switched to gluco-gel, which works well.
I have also used OJ or milk.
Are you T1/T2, do you use insulin, do tell us more about you.
When I'm low (under 60) I start with one 4-gram glucose tab, wait 15 minutes and test again. Experience and testing tell me that 1 gram of carb raises my BG 6 to 9 points (24 to 36 points from a 4-gram tab). If I've gotten into my target range of 70 to 90, good, no further treatment. If not I eat a strawberry or another half glucose tablet. Get to know how much a gram of carb increases your BG...it's a handy number to know and helps you avoid over-treating your lows.

For me the tabs work for the moment but wear off quick and I start dropping again. I find for me the best thing is juice or milk.

I prefer Starburst fruit chews over glucose tabs. Each one contains 5g of carbohydrates and usually raises my blood sugar by 20 points.
OJ is also a quick fix for me.

My hospital said 2 packets each of 2 TBS raisins when I was on glimepiride, taken 15 min apart (second only if necessary) and it worked.
So I carried my TBS raisins. They were not too tempting to snack on for me so they worked out well.
Cheap, readily available, tasty, but not too much.
