I was up in Montreal over the weekend and flew home last evening.
When the attendants came around with the complimentary drinks, I got a diet Sprite and after finishing it, with the tray table open, I pulled my meter out of my pocket and checked my blood sugar. 246 mg/dL, oops, was still digesting the french fries from Jack Astor's for lunch. I pulled out my Novolog flexpen and injected. The woman in the window seat next to me noticed this going on and introduced herself by saying how she did work for pharmaceuticals and had been with Pfizer at the time of Exubera.
It seems I was her first encounter out in public with a type 1 diabetic. I told her a bit about how Pfizer screwed up big time with Exubera, its dosing packets and the huge device that had to be used. I also told her for me personally I was much more comfortable about how it felt to inject and feel much more confident the correct dose was being administered.
So nothing really special, but just the first time I've had that happen to me on a flight. Of course, this is my first year flying since 1996 so I can't claim much time logged on flights, just 4 round trips so far this year.
