Hello all! :) 54 year old male here diagnosed with Type 2 six months ago. Both tests were in the low 140's and I'm on no meds. Just doing it with diet and walking (instead of saying exercise). I do morning tests (sometimes not a full 8 hours fasting) and my last month levels have been from a low of 78 to a high of 156. Mainly the tests are in the 120-130 range. I've been testing no less than 5 days a week. Of course weight is my problem/enemy since I am over 300lbs. That's what's going on now with my BG.

Many of my relatives are Type 2 and my Mom literally died from it. Multiple leg amputations, kidney failure and blindness. I do not want my life to take that route. I'm going to lurk a bit and jump in when I want to and start my own threads if I see the need. I'm new here but I'm not new to forums. I'm an audio enthusiast into vintage electronics (stereo stuff mainly pre-1980) and a photography buff...active in forums of those subjects.

Also as perhaps you might take it with my screen name. I kinda am a jokester... though actually was surprised when it wasn't taken. :D

Welcome, Mr. XtraSweet! I am new here too. I joined yesterday. I'm still a-lurkin'.

I am a type-2 also. I was diagnosed July 22, 2003. I started off on oral meds and ended up on insulin in December of 2008.

I joined the YMCA to get my exercising in. If they had an indoor pool I'd move in and live there. They'd have to carry me out kicking and screaming baby tantrum style. LOL

Enjoy the forum. I'm sure I'll be seein' ya' around here.

Thanks Hugs. And thanks to all who read my story. I've been lurking the past few days and have picked up a lot of knowledge. One gets lots of advice and you have your numbers... but translating that into a package of lifestyle changes is the challenge.

Hi and Welcome to DF! I'm with you on the walking... I don't hold much with formal "exercise" but I'm convinced we are built to walk, and I do... every day. I think activity needs to become a natural part of our daily lives rather than a formal ritual. :)

Hi XtraSweet! All the way from the UK. (ESSEX) just want to say hello good evening and welcome to the forum, no meds!!!! What ever it takes to manage your diabetes, I'm with you.

A wise fellow poster once said on here."use what you need (without shame or guilt) to maintain near normal BGs while minimising both long-term complications and medication side-effects. The "toolbox" of course includes: what you eat, how active you are each day, as well as oral and injected medications"

Not my words of course, but a true statement worth taking on board.

I wish you all the best with your diet and walking (exercise). :) mustn't say that word.
