Something weird is happening.

A couple of weeks ago I ate many "forbbiden" things, and my glucose was always normal. I did a 40 min test, one hour test and two hours test.

Three days ago, I repeat the experiment. I ate many things: a big steak, bread, diet coke, a couple of cookies (normal cookies, with sugar), guacamole and a mexican enchilada.

One hour later, my glucose was 100. Two hours later, my glucose was 70!!!

I though that my glucometer could be damaged, so I did another test in a friend's one. The result: 71.

I will see my doctor next week, and of course I will tell him this. But Im just wondering why? Why is this happening? Is it normal?

Im type 2, and Im using only 250 mg of metformin a day.

When were you diagnosed? How did your glucose use to behave before this change?

I have been diagnosed two months ago, i had an acute episode. My glucose was over 400.

My doctor gave me insulin (10 units two times a day) but I had hypos. Then he gave me metformin (500 mg), then metformin (250 mg).

Is it normal?

It's certainly strange that you were so high before and now manage so well on just 250mg. Maybe you are very sensitive to metformin? I would stop the medication and see how the sugars behave, but see what your doctor says first.

It also depends on how many carbs you were eating before and how much you eat now. I see you ate bread and cookies but maybe you're still eating considerably less carbs than before. This together with metformin might allow your pancreas to control your sugars if your D is not too advanced yet.

Another thing is that your pancreas may have had enough of a break that it will allow you to do this once in a while. I suspect however, that if you ate like that several days in a row, you'd see a return to higher numbers. So, enjoy it once in a while!
