so my routine is to get up and test. then to have my coffee and cream.

so, I usually by full fat cream. sometimes half and half. so I bought this cream that says "Land of Lakes half and half"

for one week I have been putting this in my coffee.

this morning I messed up and tested after my coffee at 189!!!!!!!!!! I have not been over 141 in a long time that I know of.

so I am like, "hehehehe...I will just wash my hands and retest..."

177!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pissed me off.

so I read the ingredients on creamer. its non friggin fat half and half.

no kidding. non fat half and half. bull****. no such thing.

so mad. so i figure I had about 5 tablespoons. and 189.

how do you people put milk in your coffee or drink lattes??? geeeeezzzzz..... I can get a breve latte, but thats the end of it.

non fat cream. right.

I still have diabetes.

PURE CORN SYRUP SOLIDS. YECCCCH!

Back to the drawing board. And your A1c may still be good ... and if it is not, you will at least know WHY. Which is better than not knowing!

So, back to it!

ya have to be alert to have diabetes. Like when food label advertises on the front, "net carbs are...." learned this the hard way too. net carbs don't work the same as less carbs.

My husband shops for the family. He has gotten sucked into so many traps it is NOT FUNNY.

One of the worst (and ickiest-tasting!) was Morningstar Farms MAPLE flavored sausages ... with plenty of sugar.

I threw a 70th birthday party for my mom and asked my step-dayd to get some half and half andhe came back with that nonfat 1/2 1/2 garbage. I was glad I noticed it. I did a separate trip to the store just to get the real stuff. I could have avoided it for the party, butI didn't even want to serve it to the rest of the guests. I've basically made it a point to not eat anything that is marketed as non-fat and avoid things marketed as low-fat as well. I hate it when the food marketers try to trick us!

Hi Kelli - Hopefully your A1c will be OK. 5 mornings with an elevated reading over a couple of hours shouldn't have too much effect on a 3 month 'average' - especially if you're not due to have it of a couple of months (it's loaded towards the most recent BG levels).

I'm not sure why manufacturers are allowed to call some of this stuff food. 'Food-Substitute' would be more accurate. Maybe with a health warning: "This product can shorten your life in accidentally ingested".

I still have diabetes.

Some of those have sucrose or fructose in them also, I noticed that one time I bought the wrong cream. now I am careful to read the label and make sure there are no additives in there. I know how you feel, I was mad too.

I mostly drink tea with whole fat milk. Don't have that much milk but so far it has not impacted on my BG. I do however have a skinny latte almost everyday, I generally don't eat breakfast (never have) and find that the Latte keeps my BG's nice a level till I eat lunch.

so i did this every morning for almost a week. good bye AC.

When is your A1c test? It's unlikely that it will really impact your results, but as Linda said, if it does you know why - which is the important thing. I believe it's my daily numbers that I should focus on and the A1c will follow. Don't beat yourself up over this, put it behind you, don't waste your energy worrying about something you can't change, it's in the past leave it there.

So, back to it!

Speaking of Corn syrup solids, I remember asking my endo about them because they were an ingredient in the 'name brand' calcium supplement I was going to buy. He said to buy them as the corn syrup solid would not raise my blood sugar. I thought he was nuts. I never did buy them. And I buy whole milk for my husband for his coffee. I would not knowingly buy any product with corn syrup anythings in it.

I am so suspicious of this non fat craze the world is doing.

Just had a work party ... poor coworkers DO NOT understand what I can eat. (supposedly, a belated birthday party).

Sushi? With fish (I am vegetarian) and mostly rice.

Hummus and white pita.

Salad with a sugary dressing. Another salad with a LITE Ranch dressing on the side.

Not criticizing, just saying. This is how the brainwashing is.

oh I know, people are so confused by what I eat....soooooo confused. esp, diabetics actually. thye seem to eat low fat, they think I am some kind of unruly child pretty often. but I am like James Dean, or Steve mcQueen. I am that kind of rebel.

and linda, just read about the treatment of farm animal on factory farms. and about what they are fed. OMG!!!! Are you kidding me, I eat that suff? and the pigs, the poor poor pigs. OMG. what the heck am I gonna eat now, yesterday I could not funish my hamburger patty.

ignorance is bliss. Grandma was right about that.

I am going to start just eating peas and taking vitamins.

Late to the party, as usual, but sure glad to know there's real cream in the house now, Kelli! When I was in Walmart last time, I looked for Hoods countdown milk which some here have recommended, but didn't find it - didn't ask either - just went ahead & bought my usual half gallon of heavy whipping cream. It has a nice long shelf life compared to milk products, & I can dilute it with water if I want a thinner consistency for gravy or sauces.

I abHOR advertising/marketing and even boycott some products for their asinine & misleading ads. I buy house brands because I reFUSE to pay the advertising budget of the name brands. I get so pissed that the "Madison Avenue" ilk think I can't decide for myself what I need or want, and have to brains to actually act independently to find a vendor if I decide to buy it!

(y'think you mighta hit a nerve here? :D :D :D)

Oh, Linda, I SO understand what you're going through. I have a coworker who is always proudly bringing me low-fat concoctions because she "knows" I eat "healthy!"

Another coworker is bringing jambalaya tomorrow for Halloween (???) Jambalaya is MOSTLY rice ... probably my worst spike-causing food ... and I love it, of course.

So, tomorrow will be a challenge in my office, too. We've had the Halloween candy around all week ... that I can easily resist. I'm bringing a low carb pumpkin cheesecake with a nut crust so I'll have SOMETHING I can eat. Gradually, folks may (or may not) wise up. It's just not worth the explanation.

I do not know who brought all that hummus and pita!!! Hope they can have it for dinner ...

You know, when I first found out I was diabetic I cut out cream from my coffee thinking it would help. When I went to my diabetic nutritionist she explained I could have it..you have no idea how happy I was.

I stay away from half and half, almost anything "fat free" has so many carbs it's not worth it, etc..

Someone did the same to me yesterday, they said I was knew I was a diabetic, and so they brought me a fat free "treat". Darned thing had more carbs than I can eat in a day!

:P Oh well, we all learn, right? lol

Thanks, Annabell . . . there used to be one in Rolla, but I think the nearest one now would be Jeff City, which is 60-some miles. Been thinking about a trip up there tho' . . . it's also the nearest Red Lobster & DH has a gift card in his pocket he's been itching to use! Methinks this merits some more planning!
