I'm so glad I found this forum. Although I was diagnosed in 2004 after my son passed away, I was just put on insulin last week. For some reason it sent me into a depression I've been trying hard to get out of. Thanks for being here. Kathie

hi Kathie, welcome to df. From my own experience i know that 'D' can at times be a cause of depression and also that you can be depressed which then causes lack of control, which then causes worse depression and so it goes on and on. I'm sorry to hear your son passed away. There are some truly wonderfull and caring people here, who have helped countless individuals like me (and i've been t1 for 27 yrs) understand 'D' alot more. This is just like a self help group, we all help each other and try to be honest and not too complicated in our opinions/advice. I would stress though that any advice you are given regarding your medication should be discussed with your Dr, i know that sounds obvious, but mistakes do happen. Having said all that, we do have a laugh here with people all over the globe. So ask as many questions as you like.
See you around the boards.

Hi Katie, I have a grand daughter with that name, and I call her Princess. I think you will find some wonderful people on this board and feel free to ask any question. I have asked and received wonderful advice.

Thank you all so very much! I can use help. I know not watching my diet close enough, plus stress, helped bring on my diabetes. I am the only one (out of 3 sisters and 1 brother) who was "named in the will" of my mother (who was a diabetic) to inherit her diabetes. I was put on 2 insulins Oct. 21st. I hate the finger pricking and the needles, as I'm sure none of you enjoy either. At least here my feelings are understood and I thank you all for that. I still struggle with depression over this, but have to go to my job anyway. Thanks goodness I only have this school year and next before I retire. Meanwhile, I struggle on. Could you give me some ideas of portable lunches that don't need a thermos? Thank you. Kathie
