View Full Version : Diabetic Educator
Hi All, As you know I've been Dx since July with T2. Have only seen the diabetic educator for my daughter's diabetes - not mine. Well near on 4 months and I get a call from the Diabetic Association that an appointment has been made for me - in Feb 2010. Great Stuff! NOT!!!!
Hopefully yours goes better than mine. I believe mine was very well intentioned, but rigid with her regimen. Refused to think outside the box at all, in spite of personal proof in front of her. Too much faith in the ADA IMO. Again, not a bad person or anything, but not open minded enough for me to take much away from it.
Hopefully you get something out of it - when the time FINALLY arrives. That's awful.

Considering how little help most diabetic educators are, you will know more about taking care of your D than them when you get there! Just keep doing what you're doing & hang in there.

Odar, I got in to see a pretty good DE in about 3 days, and it didn't seem unusual. I contacted them directly on the recommendation of my minimed rep. If you would like to see someone sooner, I suggest you ask around for recommendations, and make some calls, just book yourself in.
Just something I recently found out, on my private insurance I get a close to 100% rebate for a couple of sessions with a DE a year. If you have private health insurance, check it out.
If you don't, you may be able to get a good medicare rebate through a "care plan" your GP can draw up. MY GP did it for me, I assume T2 would qualify (care plans are usually for chronic conditions etc). Other medical needs can also be covered. Ask them about it.
